Gopal Krishan Sharma is a retired officer from Krishi Vibhag, Dholpur district.
Gopal was born and brought up in Agra. His grandfather was the headmaster of his primary school. Under his guidance, he completed his schooling. He passed secondary and higher secondary education in the agriculture stream at Shree Mahatma Inter College. He then went on to pursue a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Agricultural Sciences from Bhagwansingh BR College, Rajasthan. After graduation, he appeared for government service examinations. He was selected for the Agricultural Department Officer post initially at Madhavpur, and eventually he was transferred with a promotion to Dholpur.
Gopal believes that helping farmers is helping humanity. Farmers are the most poverty-stricken populace in the entire country. He aspires to make a difference in their lives. Under his leadership, he feels the government's positive moves in farmer awareness and agricultural development initiatives in their area have resulted in significant changes in the state's agricultural practices and the overall welfare of farmers.
Gopal says the agency has taken initiatives to ensure good soil quality, including providing fertilizers and facilitating water harvesting to raise groundwater levels. Farmers are aware of the importance of conserving water during irrigation. One of the department's responsibilities is to provide government support and a guaranteed minimum price to farmers. In some parts of Rajasthan, soil improvement has recently made the land fertile. Agricultural mechanization is also one of the schemes currently undertaken by the department.
Gopal says their main responsibilities during the COVID-19 pandemic were to raise sanitation awareness and provide medical services to farmers via online and offline mediums, as many families could not afford internet gadgets. The healthcare section had taken care of the COVID-19 patients and kept the number of casualties to a minimum during the pandemic. He feels that in a country where agriculture is the primary occupation, the financial well-being of farmers is the most important concern. As a result, he considers delivering help to farmers during these difficult and dire times to be a humanitarian act.
Gopal’s role models were his seniors who worked in Krishi Vibhag, like Sri Swargesh Rishi Chandrapal Singh, who provided valuable experience in this profession, and he is now following in their footsteps in order to become a good agricultural officer and add value to the lives of farmers. Finally, he concludes with the advice that one must always work with honesty and sincerity.
