Gokulananda S, commonly known as Gokul, is a professional dance choreographer and an actor from Bengaluru.
Gokul says his interest in dance grew upon joining a summer camp in 1991, after which it took him a year to join a professional dance class. Gokul started learning dance in 1992 and became a dance instructor in the same institute a year later. It’s been over 30 years since he's been in this creative profession.
Gokul also has a professional dance team called Shadows, and his studio is known by the name of Shadows Dance Studio. His team has performed several shows, and Gokul has worked with almost all the channels in Karnataka. Up till 2015, Gokul acted in TV shows and thereafter he tried his hand in movies as well. He has acted in over twenty series in a span of fourteen years.
Born in 1979, Gokul completed his education in Bengaluru. While in his 6th grade, Gokul started to have an inclination towards dance and was highly inspired by Michael Jackson and Prabhu Deva. He has never chased money and aims to give free dance classes in the long run.
Talking about his achievements, Gokul says that he has participated in two reality shows, one in Kannada and the other in Telugu. He emerged as the winner of the Super Jodi Dance Reality Show in Telugu. Gokul also considers his small fan base as his achievement.
Gokul advises aspiring dancers to work hard to make their bodies versatile and accustomed to dance. He suggests they should focus on learning and observing different dance forms. Gokul adds that the youth should not try to copy others' achievements but focus on creating their own.
When asked about his success mantra, Gokul shares that success needs focus, hard work, dedication, time and effort, coupled with knowledge. He says that there is always something to learn from people and situations around us.
Gokul gives credit for his success to his mother, who always supported him when his father was totally against him pursuing dance. He also draws inspiration from his friends, who always encouraged and motivated him to pursue his hobby.
Gokul is also a cricket enthusiast and also plays badminton from time to time. However, owing to a shoulder injury, he stopped playing and got his arm ready to battle for dance. He underwent physiotherapy sessions and made sure he was fit to dance, a decision he totally relishes today.
