Gokul Chand Saini is working as a CEO at Uva Jagriti Sansthan, Alwar.
Gokul has been associated with the organization since 2002-03 and is working in rural areas in the fields of education, health, environment, and employment.
Gokul hails from Bansur, Alwar. Till 10th standard, he went to a government school in Bansur and after that went to Kotputli for completing 11th and 12th standards. Gokul did his graduation through correspondence and simultaneously started teaching in private schools.
Gokul shares that he had a keen interest in computer education and one of his friends, Shankar Lal got Gokul admitted to M. K. Computers where he got computer education.
After that, to do something innovative in the IT field, Gokul, with his friend Giriraj, started a small IT center in Bansur block with just one computer. On 17th October 2010, he started Uva Jagriti Computer Saksharta Mission to bring computer literacy to the 148 villages under the Bansur block. Gokul shares that today they have two big campuses with more than a hundred computers and are providing skill training to the rural population to make them empowered and employable.
Gokul further shares that with the help of NABARD, he started a Self-Help Group for women in 2015 and today has 5220 women getting financial assistance through this.
Gokul shares that with the help of CSC SPV of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, rural women are getting employment and have started leading a life of respect by working in pension distribution to provide digital literacy to other rural people.
Talking about his struggles, Gokul says that when he initially started, he had very limited resources, no means to mobilize students, and he also had to deal with infrastructural shortcomings like a lack of electricity. Also, social customs like Ghunghat/Parda tradition proved to be a barrier to the liberation and development of rural women.
Sharing about his achievements, Gokul says that under the PM Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyaan, Prime Minister himself conversed through video conferencing with students of his block which was a big achievement for him. Gokul says that they have won many awards on the district and national levels as well. From being awarded on Republic Day to getting facilitated by the then IT Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Gokul says that there are many feathers in his cap.
When asked about his role models, Gokul says that the MD of CSC, Retd. IAS Dinesh Tyagi is one of his role models. Gokul gets inspired by seeing his enthusiasm and love for punctuality. His Guru Kundan Lal Sharma also motivates Gokul and is the go-to person for him in every tough situation for him. Gokul adds that the General Manager of CSC-SPV of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Omveer Choudhary is someone who has taught Gokul a lot and motivates and guides him to move forward in life.
Advising the youth, Gokul says that the youth should channelize their energy into productive activities and learning new and innovative skill sets. They should come out of the web of social media and try to learn skills that enrich their personality.
The mantra that Gokul follows in his life is, ‘What’s new, what’s next.’
In his free time, Gokul likes to spend time in the cradle of nature. He also runs a YouTube Channel by the name of ‘Gaon Vani’ bringing forth the beauty of nature around us. He also likes to teach deprived and distressed children. Gokul likes reading books as well and one book that inspired him a lot was ‘You Can Win’ by Shiv Khera.
