Girish has worked as an accountant for his company for two decades and has gained a lot of knowledge along the way. He is happy with his life right now and wants to continue living it pleasantly.

Girish Dutt is a long-standing senior accountant working at Chambal Fertilisers & Chemicals Ltd in Udaipur.

Girish has been working here for the last 20 years. His work is to manage the day-to-day accounting and financial activities and assist the Deputy Manager, Mr. Ghanshyam, in office-related work. Functioning and supervision of the finance department, marketing, taxation, and accounting are his main duties in the organization.

Girish shares that, after completing his education, he joined a manufacturing company as a junior accountant. Over the years, his experience as an accountant has enhanced his financial knowledge, and he is able to do his work more efficiently now as opposed to when he started out. He believes that the accountant is one of the most important professions in a developing nation’s corporate culture. He is very proud of his profession.

Comparing both, education and experience are both important from his viewpoint. He explains that education is the stepping stone to gathering experience in life. One can excel in accounting only with the foundational knowledge acquired through education and the practical experience gained in the workplace.

Sharing his COVID-19 experiences, Girish says that he stayed home and spent time with his family. He focused on his positive self-development during the lockdown. Professionally, he sometimes had to do online work in accounting. Despite the hard times the world was undergoing, he did not have to face too many obstacles. During certain urgent situations, he had to go to the office.

Talking about leadership, Girish thinks that some are born leaders, while others acquire it gradually through experience. He believes that a leader should know how to treat his subordinates as a team and as a unit. A leader should be able to make good decisions and instil confidence in the team whenever things do not go well.

When asked about his role models, Girish says he takes inspiration from the positive traits of people around him, be they his colleagues, his children, or anybody else. Amitabh Bachchan is his role model. The humble way in which Amitabh speaks with dignity and treats everyone around him with respect and on an equal footing with himself inspires him.

For all those who want to pursue their career as accountants, Girish advises them that a commerce background is necessary for this job. One must be logically sound, have clarity of basic concepts, pinpoint accuracy, and have basic knowledge of accounting and commerce to be able to function as an accountant for a company.
