Your one act of kindness goes a long way towards changing someone's life.
Ghanshyam Sharma has been the Deputy Manager of Finance and Commerce at Chambal Fertilisers and Chemicals Ltd since 1992.
Ghanshyam was initially posted to Bhopal when he started his career. After working two years in Bhopal, he was transferred to Jaipur, then Delhi, and then Udaipur. He belonged to a poor family. Sadly, he had lost his mother at a tender age. Since then, his first priority in life has been earning, not education, in order to secure the financial stability of the family and his siblings.
Ghanshyam says that he had a very difficult childhood. He completed his secondary education at his village government school. He then went to Nepal for odd jobs. His owner at his earlier job inspired him to start a business of his own. He started by selling small goods in a shop. He contributed his earnings to the marriage of his three sisters after coming back to India. He then worked in a medical agency where 25% of the ownership was given to him based on his innate managerial skills, which he developed with experience. Later, he found enough time to go back to school. He eventually completed his college education and earned a B.Com. degree.
Just after completing his BCom, Ghanshyam applied at Chambal Fertilisers and was initially rejected in the first interview. However, an officer, SK Thakur, called him for a second interview. Thereafter, he gave the final interview in Delhi, got the job offer, and soon joined it too.
Ghanshyam says that at any cost, he needed to work as he was from a poor household and gave it his all. He is always enthusiastic to learn and gain more knowledge. For this profession, he says that one must have a good knowledge of commerce basics. They should also have a positive attitude and good presentation skills.
In his free time, Ghanshyam likes listening to music. On the topic of leadership, he believes that a true leader must lead everyone and simultaneously serve everyone on the team. They also have the daunting responsibility of grooming new leaders.
On a concluding note, Ghanshyam asks us to keep a positive attitude despite the challenges.
