Geetika was born in Jaipur but owing to her father’s profession as a tea-plantation worker, she spent most of her childhood in Assam where she grew up. She did her primary and secondary education from Maharani Gayatri Devi School in Jaipur. Being in a boarding school, Geetika spent most of her time growing up away from home. She did her graduation in psychology honours and wanted to explore the field further and do a Masters, but her father wanted to keep her close after staying away for so many years. So after finishing her college, she went to Assam to live with her parents before getting married.
After her marriage, Geetika and her husband got into the hospitality industry and started their own hotel by the name, ‘The Whistling Teal’. Subsequently, she had to manage between her kids and the restaurant which might have been a tedious task, but thanks to her mother-in-law, Geetika never had to face any issues. She believes that the immense support she has received from her in-laws and her husband is the only reason she could do so many things with ease. She says most of her community is into the hospitality industry and women are mostly encouraged not to work, but on the contrary, she was supported monumentally by everyone in her family. She believes that in her industry, there is no turn off switch and one has to work for all-day long. If it was not for her family, she couldn't have been able to make it this far.
Although Geetika is content with where she stands today, if she could go back in time, she would have been more assertive and convinced her parents to pursue her graduation in gemology, so that she could have more lucrative career options.
During the covid-19 pandemic, Geetika faced a certain challenge when she inaugurated her new hotel, the Jhadol Vijay Vilas because they were hit financially and they had to keep a whole lot of their staff motivated to survive the pandemic. On the contrary, she enjoyed a lot with her kids and her family near the Jhadol village where she owns a resort. She says that it was fun to have the whole resort by themselves without any guests for the first time, and she spent a lot of fun and quality time with her kids.
Geetika believes that the hospitality industry is a women oriented industry and she urges more and more women to come forward and indulge in it. She feels that the way a woman can look after the kitchen and cleaning can’t be done by a man.
Geetika’s role model in life is her husband. She says that at times even when she gets confused, her husband is always very cool and possesses a lot of clarity in his mind. He is a very sorted person and even after facing so many struggles in his life, he has provided Geetika with the best life she could have asked for. They both have a great bond and she looks up to him at every step in life.
In her free time, Geetika has been trying to learn to play a guitar and the pandemic gave her a lot of time to do other recreational activities.
