Starting from learning Bollywood Dance, Geeta got attracted towards Kathak and with her hard work and determination, became a Kathak teacher.

Geeta Mandhyan is a professional Kathak Dance Teacher. She hails from Mumbai. She trained in Kathak till 2002 and has been teaching the art form since then.

Recalling her childhood memories, Geeta says that her childhood was great and she was given the name ‘Tomboy’ during her school days. She was fond of playing cricket during her childhood. She got married at the age of twenty but she continued her education after her marriage. She did Financial Management and also gave entrance exams for CA.

Geeta says that she is educated in various fields. She also did a course in Fashion Designing, and in 2003, she started her Kathak education and is now teaching Kathak to students.

Speaking about her interest in Kathak, Geeta says that her daughter used to learn Bollywood dance from a teacher for a wedding and the music attracted her to pursue dance. She requested the dance teacher to teach her but that somehow did not work. Later, she saw an advertisement on television about a dance class and she went to learn Bollywood dance in those classes and her dancing journey started there. However, she got attracted to Kathak in the same dance classes. Initially,  she found it difficult to cope with the dance moves but her passion towards dance helped her take her dancing journey forward and gain more and more knowledge about the dance form.

Regarding her mistakes, Geeta says that she is a person who thinks before taking every step. However, she thinks that if she would have begun her dance training earlier in her life, she could have been on a better  level today.

Sharing her life mantra, Geeta says that she believes in never giving up in any situation.

Talking about her achievements, Geeta says that she has completed her Kathak ‘Visharad’ with much struggle,  and it is an achievement for her.

To the young Kathak aspirants, Geeta advises them that if you want to learn Kathak, you have to fall in love with Kathak and you need to have patience and push yourself hard.
