Despite many challenges and hurdles in his life, Gautam always believed in and stood for himself. Today he has his own dance academy and is taking one step at a time to carve his own identity as a dancer and prove those who doubted him wrong.

Gautam Sinha is the Founder of Radhika Classical Ballet School in Guwahati.

Talking about his childhood, Gautam says that he was born in a middle-class family in a village in Assam. His father and most of his uncles were in the Army. And he too was expected to join the Army. Besides, he never really thought he would be a dancer growing up. However, after completing high school, he took to Dance as his career.

Gautam shares that he took to Ballet dancing at the age of nineteen. He trained under a Delhi-based Argentinian Ballet instructor and dancer. After completing his training, he came back to Guwahati and started his own dance academy by the name Radhika Classical Ballet School there.

Talking about his struggles, Gautam says that everyone around him mocked him when he told them that he wanted to be a dancer. His father was also skeptical of his decision, initially. Later, when he moved to Delhi to learn the Ballet, he had to struggle monetarily as he couldn’t ask for money from his parents. He had to face problems with regard to food, accommodation, settling in a new culture, etc. that a newcomer in a city has to face. But he never succumbed to tough times and just kept going.

Gautam acknowledges that his dance instructor always got his back. He says that his dancer instructor even offered him a scholarship realizing his zeal to learn Dance and this eased his struggles quite a bit. Besides, he also acknowledges that his mother was the one who always supported him in his endeavors.

Talking about Covid, Gautam says that the pandemic hit the entire fraternity of dancers badly. He says though there were no students in his dance academy, he still had to pay the rent for it which was quite challenging for him. However, later he started taking online dance classes, and thus he could sustain the pandemic times.

Gautam admires and emulates his dance teacher.

In his spare time, Gautam likes to go shopping and hit the gym. Besides, he also likes to cook.

To people, his message is to never fear doing something that you want to do as the worst that can happen is you would fail. Besides, he says that irrespective of whether people support you or not, never give up on your dreams.
