A sculptor and animator, Gautam considers animation a way of storytelling. He has now switched to academia, where he teaches digital sculpting and 3D modelling to students.

Gautam Kumar Goswami is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Animation and Multimedia at the Birla Institute of Technology, Jaipur. He has been teaching at the institute since 2007.

Gautam says that he hails from Guwahati, Assam, where he completed his schooling. Thereafter, he did his post-graduation from Banaras Hindu University. After completing his degree in Fine Arts, Gautam started his journey as a freelance artist before finding an opportunity as a 3D modeller at Satyam, a company based in Hyderabad. After working there for four years, Gautam found his way into academia.

Recalling his childhood, Gautam shares that as a child, he was interested in music and, at the same time, enjoyed art as a hobby. He was also into acting, but didn’t take it further.

Gautam shares that as a sculptor, he has always enjoyed doing 3D objects and has also worked on an animatronics project. He says that in the era of the digital world, the demand for animation and multimedia is at its peak. Gautam goes on to say that animation is required in every field these days, and the field has less manpower available as compared to the demand.

When asked about his role models, Gautam says he draws inspiration from an artist whom he met during his school days. He says that it is because of him that he came into this field. Gautam is also inspired by his guide and mentor at college, who was a renowned sculptor.

Gautam advises people to keep a learning attitude, stay dedicated, and be honest with themselves. He says that students of fine arts can do well as animators.

His life mantra is to live and let live and do what makes you happy.

In his free time, Gautam likes to explore different recipes. He listens to music and indulges in painting to rejuvenate himself and remain stress-free.
