Gaurav Sharma is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Geetanjali Institute of Technical Studies, Udaipur. He has been working at the institute for the last four years.
Recalling his childhood, Gaurav says he hails from Chittorgarh but had spent most of his time in Banswara owing to his father’s job. He reminisces about plucking mangoes at his farm and playing hide-and-seek with his friends. Gaurav enjoyed playing cricket the most as a kid.
Gaurav completed his BTech in Civil Engineering from the Pacific Institute of Engineering and also pursued his MTech in Structural Engineering from the College of Technology and Engineering. He is currently pursuing his PhD from SVNIT, Surat.
Discussing his challenges, Gaurav says that coming from a Hindi medium, it was initially difficult for him to cope during his BTech. He also faced a lack of guidance in terms of opportunities in the field of civil engineering.
When asked about his role models, Gaurav shares that he draws inspiration from his father, who has faced numerous challenges in life. Gaurav attributes his own progress and achievements in life to his father's unwavering support and guidance. He also considers Shivaji Maharaj his role model.
Gaurav finds inspiration in the quote, "Be a student as long as you have to learn something, and that is for your entire life."
Drawing a comparison between education and experience, Gaurav says that education is important, but so is earning and its practical implementation.
If Gaurav could travel back in time through a time machine, he would revisit his childhood and relive those precious moments with his parents.
In his message to aspiring engineers, Gaurav advises them to choose the branch they have real interest in, emphasizing that this will not only help them excel in their field but also enable them to navigate through challenging times with resilience.
Gaurav offers the advice of maintaining distance from things that do not serve one's best interests. In the light of social media, he emphasizes the importance of identifying what is truly beneficial and investing their time wisely.
In his free time, Gaurav likes to listen to music and play cricket.
