Fatima Photowala is an HR executive at Wooden Street in Udaipur.
Fatima was born and brought up in Udaipur. Apart from working as an HR, she is passionate about writing, which she has been doing since the age of eight.
Cherishing her childhood memories, she misses visiting her maternal grandparents, whose place was like a summer vacation destination.
Talking about the challenges she faced, Fatima says that showcasing our skills at home is much easier than performing them on stage in front of new faces. The beginning was not at all easy for her. She faced many issues on stage; she had public fear; she used to shiver while speaking; she was not at all confident and was more concerned about the views of others.
As a result of her fear, during an event at her school, just before the performance, she stepped back. But that was a turning point for her when she realized that this was a hurdle to her progress, so she tried everything to overcome it. She used to practice a lot, in front of the mirror and in front of people, and gradually she was successful in her attempts. It took her time to do so, but the end result was great.
COVID time proved to be an advantage for her to do the stuff that she wasn’t able to do because of her busy schedule. She launched her YouTube channel because she wanted to showcase her talent for poetry writing and other skills on a global platform. She even utilized her time properly by attending various webinars and taking many online courses. Also, she spent quality time with her family.
For all the newcomers in the field of writing or anchoring, Fatima advises them to be upfront. If you are afraid of taking initiative, then this field is not for you. You have to defeat your fears and become straightforward. If you are coming in any of these fields, she advises you to come open-hearted, ready to face challenges and opportunities as well. You have to be strong and focused to excel in this field.
Her mother inspires Fatima a lot. Since childhood, she has noticed her struggles. Being a mother, a partner, and a teacher, she handled everything perfectly. Management skills are what she has learned from her mother. Her mother supports her in everything she does. She acted as a companion during her anchoring shows and events, going with her and supporting her.
Apart from her work, Fatima likes to read and watch Hindi serials. She loves spending time with friends and family.
Talking about her field, Fatima thinks education is not that important in this field, but experience is. Being an artist is itself a brand that you need to promote. This is not a business where you can apply your theories and concepts. But experience matters to a great extent, as you grow by learning. Experience comes when you take the initiative. Downfalls are everywhere; what you need is to be focused on your goal so that it will motivate you to stand back and move forward.
Fatima does not consider herself a born leader. She has learned it gradually. She believes that time teaches you everything, including leadership. No one is a born leader or a born professional. Various stages and phases of life help us develop our leadership skills.
If Fatima can travel back to a particular time in her past, then she wants to relive her precious childhood, when there was no tension, no stress, and a carefree life completely dependent on parents.
