Faraz Khan is a singer and music composer. He has been in the field of music for 24 years.
Faraz hails from Mumbai. He says his father is a writer and director of movies. When he was a child, he used to listen to music a lot.
Sharing about his journey, Faraz says his music journey began with a music competition at his school, which he won. His college teacher supported him, and he got a chance to compete in different singing competitions. He started learning music under the guidance of Iqbaal Alam. Later, he participated in a Youth Festival, where he composed and presented a Gazal from Mirza Galib's poetry.
Gradually, Faraz also started taking interest in music composition. After college, he continued to compose music on a contract basis and also performed in different states. He also wrote a Gazal about Mahatma Gandhi, which made him famous. He felt that his music should also create learning, so he joined a new team called "Communal Harmony through Music."
Recalling his mistakes, Faraz says initially, he had to face difficulties when he found that middlemen or music companies decide what and how to sing, which pressurizes the singer and doesn’t allow them to convey a song or message in their own way. However, over time, he learned from his mistake and developed a better understanding of the music industry.
When asked about his role models, Faraz says he took inspiration from all his teachers; his role models include Megha Sriram Dalton, Iqbaal Alam, and Shiv Rajoria. His academic teachers also encouraged him to become a singer.
In his free time, Faraz likes to visit quiet places and take pictures.
Faraz’s life mantra is "Refilled ink, blank book, barefoot, and off roads," which means to find something new in your passion instead of following the trends or path of others.
Faraz suggests to the youth that it is necessary to have a guru in life. People should learn music by physically performing it in class, as it is a better and more effective method of learning.
