Durlav Das is a Tripura-based filmmaker and cinematographer.
Durlav belongs to Belonia, in Tripura. He says, from childhood, he used to do mobile photography and was interested in this field. He got an offer to join a course on screenplay and filmmaking in Kolkata and decided to do that. Initially, he started with learning editing through online courses and then started cinematography.
Talking about his childhood, Durlav says that he was active in sports in his childhood and did not have any interest in the art field. He says that he did much mischief in his childhood.
Durlav shares that he was inspired by wedding photography and shifted towards it to get more financial benefits. He gained different experiences from wedding photography, he says.
When asked about his mistakes, Durlav says that leaving the nursing field was one of his life-changing mistakes, as he learned a lot from his three-year tenure in nursing.
Sharing his achievements, Durlav says that he was adjudged "Best Filmmaker" in 2021. He also directed a musical film, "Amaro Porano Jaha Chay," about the LGBT community, which was a life-changing experience for him. He was also recognised by the International Film Festival, which is an achievement.
His role model is his brother, Arnav Chakraborty, who supported and helped him choose the right path at every step in life. In the field of filmmaking, he follows Satyajit Ray and tries to learn from his creations. He also follows Vishal Punjabi for wedding photography.
Durlav shares that to beat stress, he listens to music, and in his spare time, he goes for a ride alone.
When asked about his life mantra, Durlav says that learning and theory are important in every field. He believes that goals must be updated and practised in order to be met.
Durlav advises against dual careers and says you must take your time deciding which career is the best for you.
