Dr. Yuvraj Jadeja is a Fertility Consultant and Obstetrician & Gynecologist at Akanksha Hospital & Research Institute and the owner of Ikigai Fertility and Wellness Center in Vadodara. He specializes in infertility, IVF, and surrogacy, with a focus on LGBTQA+ health. He also heads the Fertility Department at a medical college, where he teaches about fertility.
After completing his postgraduate studies in Obstetrics and Gynecology, he pursued a super-specialty course in Reproductive Endocrinology and Sexual Health.
Dr. Yuvraj was born and raised in a small town. Despite his parents' humble background, he received a good education. As a schoolchild, he was artistically inclined, with interests in literature, music, and dance. However, when the time came to choose a career, he opted for the medical field. He reflects that choosing to become a male gynecologist ten years ago was a bold decision that caused quite a stir in his circle. He was inspired by his mother's and female family members' health issues to study the subject.
Dr. Yuvraj acknowledges that everyone faces struggles, and he has had his share of the same. Medical studies are long and challenging. Coming from a middle-class family, even buying medical books was a significant expense for him. Securing a spot in the desired specialty was a struggle, as was finding a good job after graduation. Now, starting his own hospital and making it successful is another challenge. However, he believes that if your struggles are directed towards goals you are passionate about, they are worth it. There will be ups and downs, but staying motivated during the lows and pushing towards your goals is the key to success.
He says that his friends and family have always supported him. Knowing what you are struggling for is crucial because if you don't like what you're striving for, it will become increasingly difficult.
As a gynecologist, Dr. Yuvraj encounters difficult cases every day, saves lives, and helps bring new lives into the world. He feels satisfied when his patients express their gratitude. He recalls an incident on a train where a mother and child he had treated recognized him, and he felt happy that his patients still remembered him after treatment.
Dr. Yuvraj says that the Covid pandemic was a tough time. Treating pregnant women with Covid was a significant challenge. He contributed by providing online consultations to Covid patients and uploading videos on various platforms. He received many messages with questions, making it a task to respond to all. He, along with 20 to 25 doctors and friends, started a helpline to cope with the demand. He felt particularly saddened by the loss of a 24-year-old, 8-month pregnant patient due to unavailability of oxygen. This experience motivated him to spread awareness about Covid aggressively. They received help from doctors and young volunteers for the cause.
When asked about his role models, he mentions his parents as his first role models. He can never forget how they managed the expenses of his costly medical education. Many of his teachers also inspired him, especially his Hindi teacher, who gave him confidence to speak in public.
In his free time, he enjoys watching movies, especially on OTT platforms. He also loves to read books. He feels motivated by the quote, "I am more than what I appear to be, all the world's power and strength rest in me," from the book 'The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari.'
For new aspirants entering any field, his advice is to follow their own desires and not be guided by others. Regarding skills, he believes they can be obtained once you decide on your field.
His message to everyone is to read a lot, be good at representing yourself, and be confident. He emphasizes that the lessons learned during Covid should not be forgotten. Thanks to Covid, humanity has come closer, and this closeness should continue even afterward.
