Hard work and dedication always pay off.
Dr Vikas Punia is the Vice-Principal and Professor of Prosthodontics & Implantology at Darshan Dental College & Hospital, Udaipur for over a decade now.
He belongs to Pilani, a small city in Rajasthan. Coming from an army background, he has done his schooling from various army schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas and other govt schools across Jaipur, Jammu, Delhi, Ahmedabad and Bangalore. He completed his BDS and MDS from Karnataka. Vikas shares that studying in different schools helped him adapt to new places, different languages, and groomed him as a better person. He feels he has inculcated discipline and confidence in himself by adapting and adjusting to different environments.
Vikas always wanted to do something highly qualified owing to his family background and appeared for NDA. However, he couldn’t make it. At the same time, he appeared in a common entrance exam and cleared with flying marks. Thereafter, he opted for engineering counseling and opted Computer Science as his preference. However, his family encouraged him to go for Medicine to serve society better.
His biggest achievement was during the pandemic when he, along with his team members, led from the front as corona warriors keeping in mind all the safety protocols. Though it was a challenging experience for him to convince the staff to rejoin and stand with society, he feels blessed to have played a role in keeping people away from contracting the virus. Hence, the corona days were both an achievement and a challenge for Vikas catering to both students’ and patients’ safety and needs.
For aspiring dentists, Vikas shares that one needs to take NEET as a golden opportunity to score well and set a benchmark. He suggests the medical aspirants not to feel pressured during their preparatory stage and put in all their hard work and dedication in order to excel. Vikas shares that Darshan Dental is known for its highly professional and dedicated senior faculties to groom young minds.
His success mantra is to take each day one at a time and consider every day as a new beginning. In terms of professional life, he considers work as worship, a mantra given to him by people in his administration.
To wind up, Vikas shares that had he not been a dentist, he would have been a cricketer since he has had a keen interest in sports and has been associated with a team representing the game at the state and national level.
