Heading the classical dance college established by her mother-in-law, Uma loves the field of classical dance. She feels that even a lifetime is not enough to attain mastery in the field of classical Indian dance.

Dr. Uma Rahul Rele is the Principal of Nalanda Nritya Kala Mahavidyalaya which was established by Padma Bhushan Kanak Rele, who is her guru and mother-in-law.

Uma was born and brought up in Mumbai. She did her B.A. in Economical Science from Mithibai College, Mumbai.  She has also done a doctorate in Bharatanatyam dance. Uma was always into classical dance and trained under Hansa Sanghvi before joining Nalanda Mahavidyalaya as a student.

Uma feels that every field requires dedication and hard work. Struggles are inevitable in every field according to her.

Talking about her mistakes in life, Uma says she feels that mistakes are bound to happen in life and that committing mistakes is not a crime. She says that sometimes students make the mistake of taking the dancing field too lightly but Uma says that it is also a very technical field.

Uma feels that aspirations for accolades and appreciation are very common and one should aspire to achieve more and more in life. However, she also feels that it can happen only through just working dedicatedly without worrying about the results.

When asked about her role models, Uma says that first and foremost her parents are her role models as they always supported and guided her. Uma was never stopped from doing anything and was inculcated with the right values by her parents. Next, Uma says that her in-laws are her mentors as they provided her exposure to the artistic world. Uma also mentions her husband to be a constant support and guide in life.

Talking about her hobbies, Uma says that she is lucky to be in a field that she is passionate about. However, she also likes mountaineering, listening to songs, reading philosophy, watching T.V. and movies, working out, and traveling.
