Dr. Surya Choudhary is a Resident Medical Officer at GBH American Hospital, Udaipur.
Surya was born and raised in Chittorgarh. She completed her schooling in Chittorgarh and Udaipur. She did her Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery from Rajasthan Vidyapeeth Homeopathic Medical College, Udaipur.
Surya says that she was inspired by her Compounder grandfather to become a doctor.
Surya shares that in her first attempt itself at the RPMT she could pass the exam. And on the basis of her performance at the exam, she was eligible to get admission to BDS. But since she always wanted to study medicine as it was her childhood dream to serve people she chose to pursue BHMS instead.
Talking about her achievements, Surya says that at school, she received medals in Khoko and Volleyball tournaments. Besides, she was awarded the Best Student Award in her high school. She was also featured in a local newspaper for distributing food and homeopathic medicine to the needy during the Covid pandemic which is also an achievement for her. Furthermore, being able to have the prefix “Dr” added before her name is her biggest achievement.
Talking about Covid, Surya says that during the pandemic she feared catching the virus herself and passing it to others in her contact. Besides, she raised awareness about the pandemic in the rural areas near her home and distributed medicine and food to the needy there.
Surya considers her father, who went against the patriarchal society to provide her the best education, her role model. Besides, she also considers her grandfather as her inspiration who always encouraged her to study.
Her success mantra is to give her one hundred percent to whatever she does.
Surya advises that one should always follow what their heart says and never heed what people have to say about them.
In her spare time, Surya likes to go shopping and travel to different places. Besides, she also loves to read books and enjoy her solitary time.
If she could go back in time then Surya would want to relive her hostel days in college which were spent studying and enjoying with friends.
Surya thinks that it’s very important for women to be independent. Therefore, she advises parents and in-laws to let their daughter(s) and daughter(s)-in-law study and support them to create their own identity. Besides, she advises women to learn to deal with challenges in life and never to give up on their dreams.
In the future, Surya wants to set up a hospital for the people from the lower stratum of society to be able to serve them.
Her message to people is always to have a positive outlook on life irrespective of however tough situations may be.
