Dr. Surbhi Gupta is an Ophthalmologist in Jammu.
Recalling her childhood, Surbhi says that she was born and brought up in Jammu. She belonged to a business family, but her father was the only one in the family who was in service. Her father was a Pediatrician who retired from the post of HOD at the Medical College of Jammu. Her elder sister is also a Microbiologist. She did her schooling at Presentation Convent High School and completed her graduation from Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences. She did postgraduate studies from the Government Medical College.
Talking about her journey, Surbhi says that she was not interested in the medical field, even though her father was a doctor. She thought that the life of a medical professional was very busy, and they didn’t have time for family. In the twelfth grade, she took Biology as an optional subject, but she was more interested in Engineering. But, slowly and gradually, she started to like Biology and scored the highest marks in that subject throughout India. That was the turning point in her life, and she decided to choose this field and became an Ophthalmologist.
Accepting her mistakes, Surbhi says that she made the mistake of not opening up to other options in life. Later, she learned to never say no to any option in life. She also made the mistake of trusting others easily, and learned not to trust anyone other than herself.
Surbhi’s role models are her grandfather and father, who struggled a lot in their lives, and she learned a lot from them. She also admires her teacher and guide, Dr. RK Mengi, as he gave her support and professional guidance. After getting married, she is inspired by her husband and learns from him how to maintain proper balance between personal and professional lives.
Surbhi’s life mantra is to never say ‘never’ and to never give up in life.
In her spare time, Surbhi likes to listen to music, read books, and dance.
Advising aspirants to her field, Surbhi says that it is important in the profession of a doctor to read and study all the time. One should have to keep on studying throughout their lives to keep themselves updated in this field. It is also helpful in developing patience, which is essential in the life of a doctor. Perseverance and continuity are also required in this profession.
