Reflecting on her journey into Physiotherapy, Dr. Sonali Chauhan recalls how, from an early age, she was certain she didn’t want to pursue maths in 10th grade or go into medicine (MBBS) in 12th grade. This clarity led her to explore alternative paths. Being actively involved in sports, she found her calling when her father suggested the Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) course. After researching the program, she felt a strong connection to it, ultimately choosing physiotherapy based on a clear understanding of what she wanted to avoid in her career.
Regarding her educational background, Dr. Sonal Chauhan shares that she completed her Physiotherapy degree at Jodhpur Government College. Following her graduation, she moved to Pune to begin her practice, during which she realized the need to expand her services to the community. A conversation with one of her seniors inspired her to delve into yoga. As she explored this new discipline, Dr. Chauhan discovered that yoga encompasses much more than mere physical practice. This deeper understanding led her to integrate yoga with physiotherapy, allowing her to offer a more comprehensive approach to her patients’ well-being.
Dr. Sonali Chauhan relocated to Udaipur after COVID-19. Before that, she lived in various places, gaining insight into different cultures due to her father's transferable job. She has been residing in Udaipur for three years now. Most of her schooling was in Chittorgarh, though she also studied briefly in Gurgaon, Indore, and other cities. After completing her graduation in physiotherapy from Jodhpur, Dr. Sonali moved to Surat for her internship and then to Pune to gain further exposure and develop her skills. While in Pune, she began learning yoga and attended her physiotherapy shifts in the evenings.
Reflecting on her experience at RMB (Rotary Means Business), Dr. Sonali emphasizes the platform's role in fostering business networking and skill development. She found herself energized and motivated among a diverse group of entrepreneurs, all bringing valuable experiences to the table. RMB serves as an excellent platform for building connections, exploring innovative business ideas, and enhancing self-presentation skills. It also provides opportunities to boost confidence, especially in public speaking.
When asked about her role models, Dr. Sonali shares that she carries a bag of inspirations, learning and adopting good qualities from people of all ages and backgrounds. From a five-year-old child to a seventy-year-old woman, Dr. Chauhan finds inspiration in many faces and takes key lessons with her.
Dr. Sonali draws inspiration from Aristotle's quote, "The purpose of knowledge is action, not knowledge." She highlights a significant shloka from the Yoga Sutras: “Sthira sukham asanam,” which means “The posture for meditation should be steady, stable, and comfortable.” Notably, out of the 196 shlokas in the Yoga Sutras, only one focuses on asanas, emphasising that yoga transcends mere physical postures. The ultimate goal of yoga is to attain ‘samadhi’, or a state of meditative consciousness.
Dr. Sonali advises all physiotherapists and yoga enthusiasts to be mindful in their practice, as patients place their trust in you for their health. She encourages smiling often, as it can make a significant difference. Sharing laughter and stories with patients and students fosters a positive atmosphere. Additionally, she emphasises the importance of dedicating at least one hour daily to leisure activities like reading, exercise, or meditation to stay energised and balanced.
Dr. Sonali also advises Indian women to prioritise their health, emphasizing that everything else will be taken care of by nature.
Additionally, Dr. Sonali advises the youth to stay connected to their culture, practice patience, and believe in hard work. She emphasizes that while smart work is important, hard work should never be overlooked.
Dr. Sonali Chauhan offers yoga classes for individuals of all ages and genders, embodying the philosophy that "Kasee is a safe place for you where your health is our priority."
