Dr Smita has travelled all around the world delivering lectures on dentistry. She has also done her part to keep alive the rich tradition of Hindi and Urdu poetry.

Dr. Smita Singh is a renowned dentist in Udaipur. She did her BDS and MDS from King George Medical College, Lucknow. She specializes in Root Canal Treatment, and Restorative and Cosmetic Dentistry. She and her husband have been running their Udaipur Dental Clinic for the last 22 years.

Smita was born in Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh and studied till 12th there itself. She had a great activity-filled childhood rich in various activities. Her father was a poet and took her to Mushairas and Kavi Sammelans which created a liking for poetry in her too. Her mother was insistent that she should participate in all the activities that came along. So, she learnt all types of painting and drawing, singing, dancing, playing musical instruments and writing poetry. Her poems were published in newspapers and magazines. She also participated in NCC and was a state level badminton player.

As everyone in her family including her grandfather, father, brothers, nephews and nieces were dentists she also developed a passion to become a dentist. She saw her father work hard from eight in the morning till eight in the evening and got fascinated with dentistry.

How she and her husband came to Udaipur is an interesting story. They were in college together in Lucknow. They married and came to Udaipur for their honeymoon. They fell in love with the lakecity so much that they decided to settle here for life. She says it has been a very satisfying 22 years in Udaipur for her as the people here have been extremely warm and helping. She expresses her gratitude to everyone.

She also wants to thank all her patients. She informs that they are soon going to open another branch of their clinic which will be a high-tech branch with all the latest facilities available.

Talking about her achievements as a poet and writer Smita says that it has been a great journey for her. She was a columnist for Dainik Bhaskar. Her column ‘Chota Muh Badi Baat’ was very popular. She also has a YouTube channel on which she posts her own poetry and also recites poetry of some great poets of India. She thinks her channel is a small contribution from her to keep alive the rich tradition of Hindi and Urdu poetry in India. She was a regular performer on All India Radio and also appeared in programs on Lucknow and Gorakhpur Doordarshan.

Her other achievements have been professional. She has been a teacher and a trainer. She has delivered lectures and conducted training sessions in prestigious institutions all over the world and in India. She has treated many complicated cases in her clinic. She was awarded by the government for her anti-tobacco and fluorosis campaigns. She has received several awards and recognitions in the field of dentistry.

Smita believes that you shall keep on climbing and enjoy the climb and shall not think about the top as there is little space on the peak. She says her husband has always been a pillar of support for her all her life. She loves being a doting mother and a good wife.

Talking about Covid times, Smita says it was a very tough time. They had to treat emergency patients even during the peak waves and lockdowns which they did with utmost precaution.

For newcomers aspiring to enter the world of dentistry her advice is that they must be prepared to toil hard. She regrets that youngsters are not that keen to work hard and to learn work with deep interest which is taking the quality of dentistry down.

Her role models have been her mother and her father who encouraged and inspired her to excel in so many fields in life.

Smita says even if she gets a chance to go back in time and change something she would not do that as she only wants to live in the present.
