Dr. Mohit Pal is a Professor & Head of the Department of Radiology and a Vice Principal at Pacific Dental College. He has always been interested in the medical field.
Hailing from Ajmer, Mohit did his primary education and high school at Mayur School, Ajmer. He appeared in the PMT and couldn’t clear it in the first attempt. He did his graduation from Hindu College, Delhi North Campus, in Economics (Honors), but just after two months of his admission, he realized that he is passionate about the medical field. So he dropped out of that course to make another attempt at the medical entrance exam. He cleared the PMT this time.
Dr. Mohit is presently working as a Professor and Head of the Department of Oral Medicine Radiology at Pacific Dental College and Hospital, Udaipur. He also looks after the Dental College as a superintendent and vice principal. He has been associated with this institute since 2002, after completing his MDS. He initially joined here as a Senior Lecturer.
Dr. Mohit says if he could go back in time, he would like to go into the initial phase of his job and go for further studies or research work rather than enjoying the comfort zone. Apart from this, he regrets that he missed out on administrative jobs in the civil service because of the choice of subjects and would like to correct that.
Dr. Mohit says that dentistry is the most demanding profession nowadays. He suggests that the upcoming dentists should look at the immense population that is devoid of good dental treatment and check-ups. This may be life-threatening and become dangerous to society. He feels that there is immense scope in this field.
About achievements, Dr. Mohit feels proud to say that he got a medal in his school for being the ‘Best student of the year’. He got a gold medal for acting in school. During his graduation, he won a swimming championship at a sports day event. He is a member of the Indian Academy of Medicine and Radiology, International Academy of Orofacial Pain and Indian Dental Association. He has taken a certification course from the Indian Academy of Palliative Care and recently got a life membership in that organization.
Dr. Mohit says lately he has registered an NGO named ‘Banke Bihari’ with a view to serving people with terminally ill conditions, patients suffering from ailments like cancer, and debilitating disorders, and to provide health care at home.
Dr. Mohit opines that nobody is a born leader, as every leader becomes a leader through his work. He says that during his early school days, he was given the lead on all the issues in the class. Since then, leadership qualities have developed in him slowly and gradually. According to him, in order to be a good leader, you must conduct yourself in a way that will make you an example to those around you and the next generation.
Dr. Mohit claims that because he was able to spend more time with his family during the lockdown period and because it allowed him to take a break from work, he thoroughly enjoyed it. Though he feels relieved that nothing bad has happened to his family, the fear of losing loved ones has always existed. He was concerned about his parents because they were away from their hometown.
Dr. Mohit’s success mantra is hard work, dedication, and loyalty to your work. According to him, dealing with the current situation with all of one's commitment and dedication without thinking about the outcome is the key to success.
Speaking of role models, Dr. Mohit claims that his maternal grandfather served as his inspiration because he was raised at his mother's home, was inspired to understand life more fully, and gave generously to others without expecting anything in return. He was also inspired by the many other diligent people in various fields. Additionally, APJ Abdul Kalam is his greatest inspiration because he was a straightforward man who achieved greatness through perseverance.
Dr. Mohit advises the new generation to enter this profession with empathy, and if you lack it in any healthcare profession, you will not become a good doctor because not everything is done for the pocket. There are certain things that need to be done for our souls, too.
In his free time, Dr. Mohit enjoys listening to music, especially old songs. Besides this, he has several other hobbies like photography, bike riding, bird watching, and spending time with his family.
Dr. Mohit appeals to the young generation to step on the ground and work out physically rather than mentally on electronic gadgets because, apart from being smart, you must be physically fit too.
