Dr. Lom, a successful Endodontist feels that a dentist along with having knowledge should have a mechanical mind and artistic skills to give your teeth an aesthetic touch.

Dr. Lom Harshan Simlote is a dentist by profession and an Endodontist, in particular, performing root canals to save an infected or decayed tooth. He runs a dental clinic of his own by the name Shree Jee Dental Clinic in Udaipur. His wife is an Orthodontist putting braces and treating the malaligned teeth of the patients. Apart from their specialities, Lom, along with his wife, also does implants and surgical procedures related to dentistry.

Born in Ajmer, Lom’s parents are doctors too with his father being a Gynaecologist and his mother a Pathologist. Upon his parents’ transfer, he along with his family shifted to Udaipur.

He drew the inspiration of becoming a dentist from his grandfather who himself is a dentist. Lom completed his bachelors from Darshan Dental College and Masters in Endodontics from the Philippines. He has also done a fellowship from Japan and Singapore. While practising abroad, he experienced a difference in work culture and teaching methods which is more research-oriented in foreign countries. For a couple of months, it was difficult for him to adapt to the system and found it challenging to interact with the patients in their local language. However, gradually he learnt the language with help of his colleagues and professors and implemented the learnings back in India.

Lom considers his mother as his role model since she managed to take care of three kids along with being a Pathologist and incharge of a blood bank. Later she became a professor and is a Principal today at RNT Medical College and he is truly inspired by her journey and hard work. He also draws inspiration from his teachers who helped him overcome difficulties, manage stress and deliver his best.

Talking about the scope of dentistry, Lom mentions that it is the youngest field of medicine and one can achieve great heights with dedication and smart work. He shares that dentistry also allows one to experience beautiful achievements. Quoting an instance of an old patient who was unable to eat and by giving him an implant denture, he brought back that smile on his face since he could eat well now. Dr Lom also works on deaddiction and has been successful in his interventions.

Discussing COVID, Lom shares that it was a great learning curve for him having to cater to the needs of his patients wearing a PPE kit and spending time with his family and children. Lom is an avid reader and loves to travel as well. In his leisure time, he likes to indulge in yoga, running and swimming. He learnt to cook new recipes during the lockdown and is trying to incorporate meditation into his schedule.

Talking about leadership, Lom shares that he follows a family practice of understanding the issues their staff might face and resolving them in the best possible manner. If given an option to time travel, he would like to relive his childhood and college days.

His success mantra is to work smart and enjoy the taste of success. He feels that one should pay proper attention to their oral hygiene and not treat dentist appointments as a last resort which is a common practice in India. Dr Lom suggests everyone to get themselves checked from time to time in order to detect issues at an early stage.

Dr. Lom has been into dental tourism for some time now having treated foreign patients with his impressive work and less budget. Udaipur, being a hotspot of tourism, Lom wishes to launch this idea and give wings to it since he believes that the boundaries are limitless and one can cater to medical needs across the globe.
