Mental health is as important as physical health, so working on it will help you become the best version of yourself.
Mental health is as important as physical health, so working on it will help you become the best version of yourself.
A Clinical Psychologist and Psychotherapist, Dr. Siddiqa Hussain is the Founder and Director of ‘Mind Works Bait’ and has 35 years of experience in the mental counseling and psychology fields.
Born and Raised in Udaipur, Dr. Siddiqa completed her BA degree from Udaipur. Then she did her masters from Jaipur and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Delhi University.
Talking about her struggles, Dr.Siddiqa says she had encountered many difficulties while studying psychology. She tells the tale of how, following her marriage, she and her husband shifted to Kuwait to work at Shaikh Diwan Amiri, a social development organization established to provide refuge to Iraqi victims.
Sharing her accomplishments, Dr.Siddiqa proudly shares that she's learned 69 different types of psychotherapy. She has also worked with experienced psychologists who have guided her a lot. She even got training in Reality Therapy from William Glass Institute and trained in Biofeedback and Cognitive Behavior therapy.
When asked about her role models, she cites her grandmother as the first of the three role models in her life. Despite having no formal education, her grandmother was the embodiment of strength and women empowerment. Her mother serves as her next role model because of her fortitude, tolerance, and strengths. In her professional life, Dr. Siddiqa is inspired by Dr. Farida Dias, who has assisted her in Kuwait to become a specialist in the field of human psychology.
Dr. Siddiqa is inspired by various things, starting with the song “Kisi Ki Muskurahaton Pe Ho Nisar '' and the line “ The more you know about a human, the less you know” that always inspires her at the professional level. In addition to all, she often recites a dua from her childhood, “Lab pe aati hai dua ban ke tamanna meri, zindagi shama ki surat ho khudaya meri”.
Dr. Siddiqa returned to Udaipur from Kuwait after gaining extensive knowledge and real-world experience to teach parents and kids about mental health and spread awareness about the problem. She adds that children are under constant pressure to perform well in the real world following COVID, therefore parents should offer them mental support.
As a mentor, she is actively involved in shaping the next generation of psychologists, emphasizing the significance of transparency, empathy, and candor. Dr. Siddiqa underscores the importance of actively listening to those in distress, drawing from her experience in dealing with severe abuse cases.
Comparing the two, Dr. Siddiqa says she values experience over education because, while working with the best consultants and counseling victims of severe physical, mental, emotional, and sexual abuse, she accumulated much needed experience. Undergoing training at Gulf University, the Social Development Office, and the British School also helped her gain valuable experience.
Dr. Siddiqa has launched ‘Mind Works Buddy’, an online counseling platform, to raise awareness among those kids who feel uneasy visiting the physical center.
Regarding the one thing she could never get enough of or wish she could change, she states that she always wanted to become a doctor but her relatives enrolled her in St. Mary's School, which had no science classes, just to improve her English. However, she still finds satisfaction in the mental health field, helping others.
If she could go back in time in a time machine, Dr. Siddiqa would have become a doctor , a goal tucked away in her memories and wishes.
A piece of advice that Dr. Siddiqa gives young people is to "be sincere and serious about life, use time effectively, prioritize mental health, abstain from things like alcohol and drugs, and do things to make your nation proud."
She exhorts all Indians to reintroduce our culture in our lives and start patching up the family ties that have been damaged due to digitalization.
