Inspired by her mother’s compassion and serving nature, Dr. Shona has been running her own foundation for the past twenty years. She was motivated to take up social welfare work full-time after completing her engineering.

An engineer turned social worker, Dr. Shona Sharma is the Founder of the Koshish - Ek Aasha Foundation in Udaipur, Rajasthan.

The NGO was founded twenty years ago and focuses on the welfare of women and disadvantaged children. She explains that her charity plans activities all year long to raise awareness of women's health issues, particularly breast cancer. She counsels ladies to be conscious of their bodies and to learn about the illness from others who are afflicted.

Dr. Shona was encouraged to pursue social work by her mother, a former homemaker who became a social worker, and her father, an army soldier. She began her foundation’s volunteer work concurrently with her engineering coursework. She began her career as a Soft Skills Trainer after earning her degree. In Udaipur, her charity has several centres.

Dr. Shona reflects on her early years, stating that although she was raised in Udaipur and finished her education there, she was actually born in Delhi. She adores the city's lakes and atmosphere in general.

DR. Shona recalls she initially had a difficult time helping people since they were uneasy and nervous. Still, optimism and fortitude got her through those difficult times.

Regarding her role models, Dr. Shona states that her mother is one among them. Her mother's unselfish devotion for society served as her inspiration for choosing this career path. She also picked up patience from her mother and considered how she wanted to be remembered after she passed away. Her mentality and disposition were shaped by the lessons her mother had learned.

Since education offers so many possibilities in life, she thinks it's vital for everyone. However, experience is just as crucial for situational awareness, she believes.

Dr. Shona admits that her aspirations for her life evolved with time. She thus counsels parents to give their children the freedom to choose what they wish to become. She also counsels the kids to develop self-belief and to be like the river that flows. The secret to a happy life is to get involved in the things you are passionate about. She exhorts young people to get involved in society and offer assistance wherever they can.
