A determined academician, Dr. Shilpa Saxena believes in never resting until she has achieved her goals.

Dr. Shilpa Saxena is an Associate Professor at the Pacific Institute of Business Studies, Udaipur.

Dr. Shilpa originally hails from Kota. She completed her entire formal education in Kota itself. She did B.Com. and M.Com. Then she taught at a school for a couple of years. After that, she got an opportunity to teach CA Foundation students at a coaching institute in Kota itself. Later to broaden her horizons, she thought of pursuing a PhD. She completed her PhD. from Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University and was fortunate enough to have received her Ph.D. degree from the then Governor of Rajasthan Smt. Pratibha Patil.

After her marriage, she settled in Udaipur. She taught at Aishwarya College for around twelve years. Then she got the opportunity to teach at Pacific University.

She shares that teaching Commerce students is a tough task as different students have different aspirations and tailoring the curricula accordingly is challenging. At the college, she teaches as an Associate Professor and also guides Ph.D. students. Besides, she also actively organizes cultural activities at the college she teaches at, as organizing cultural activities is her interest.

Shilpa has also cleared RAS prelims and mains examinations and is awaiting the opportunities ahead. She is happy and content with her job as she gets to interact with many students which imparts learning to her too.

She says being a female working professional is very challenging as she has to juggle her family responsibilities and job. Her husband was posted in Delhi and she had to look after her kids all by herself along with her job.

Talking about challenges on the professional front, she says that she had done her Ph.D. but was asked to teach MBA students in her first teaching job itself which was challenging for her as teaching postgraduate students requires you to have in-depth knowledge. Initially, she faced some problems but she picked up teaching soon.

Discussing the Covid pandemic, she says that on the professional front it was a challenging time as she had to lose her job, and managing hers and her family’s expenses was a challenge. But on the personal front, she got to spend time with her family after a long time and also got to know her children better.

She says that organizing cultural events has been her interest. She herself came forth and asked the management at the institute she works at that she wanted to organize cultural events. She got featured in newspapers along with the features of the events she conducted. She really felt proud when her efforts were appreciated and rewarded.

Shilpa considers Kiran Bedi and late Pratibha Patil as her role models and inspirations and she aspires to be like them.

Shilpa acknowledges the support of her family that she received in fulfilling her duties on the personal and professional fronts.

To students, her advice is to never give up until you reach your destination as none gets things easily in life.

To girls, her message is to not give up on their dreams after their wedding and never surrender to tough times in life. Keep your morale always up and keep working for your dreams.
