Dr. Shikha Sharma is working as an Assistant Professor in the Psychiatric Department of Geetanjali Medical College and Hospital. Along with this, she is also a Consultant Psychiatrist and has been running her own clinic by the name “Will to Live” for 16 years.
Shikha was born and brought up in Udaipur. She had decided to become a Psychologist when she was just in the sixth standard. She did her schooling from St. Teresa’s Sr. Sec. School and passed from the Arts stream. She chose Psychology for her graduation. Everyone in her family is a doctor, so this and many other reasons, further cemented her decision to become a Psychologist. She eventually graduated with a degree in Psychology and later did Masters in Clinical Psychology. Thereafter, she did Ph.D in Psychology.
Shikha joined the RNT Medical College during the second year of her Ph.D as an intern. With the support and guidance of her mentor, she went to Delhi and Bangalore and received training in various disorders and Child Psychology. Meanwhile, she had also started working in MLSU as a Guest Faculty. Her Ph.D finally got over in 2006 and she was associated with the RNT College till 2009 as a Counselor. She was also engaged in her private practice at that time. Finally, in 2013, she joined Geetanjali Medical College as a Consultant Psychologist and was promoted to the post of Assistant Professor in 2015. She is currently the HOD and her department also engages in social welfare programs by organizing mental health awareness drives.
Shikha thinks that Psychology should be a part of the academic curriculum in schools. She says that psychology is not only studied for community welfare but more importantly it helps in getting to know ourselves better. She says that knowing ourselves helps us to live better and accept our strengths and flaws in a mature manner.
Shikha's role models are her father, her mentor and her husband. They have alys motivated and supported her in life. However, she says that the fighting spirit in her was instilled by her mother.
Shikha considers herself a born-leader as she fulfills every responsibility that is given to her. She says that her ability to know the capabilities of people helps her lead better.
Apart from her work, Shikha likes to write, ride, listen to music and watch movies. She also likes art and craft. She says that whenever she is angry, she cooks.
The only advice Shikha gives as a Psychologist is that everyone should spend time with their family. She says that the company of your family never lets you feel alone or depressed.
