An assistant professor, Sayanika is striving to make a contribution to the dance world. She resumed her dance career after battling depression for two years.

Dr. Sayanika Goswami is working as an Assistant Professor at Dibrugarh Hanumanbax Surajmall Kanoi College in Dibrugarh. She hails from Nalbari, Assam.

She completed her school and college education from Nalbari. She received her Ph.D. from Gauhati University.

Remembering her childhood, Sayanika says she was interested in acting and dance since she was a small child. Her parents always supported her to follow her dreams.

When Sayanika was pursuing graduation, her friend told her about Sangit Kalakendra Barama Baksa, where she could learn classical dance. After reaching there, she had her first introduction to classical music and dance. She appeared in her ‘visharad’ exams during her graduation. She went to the Banaras Hindu University to receive Sanskrit education. But due to some reasons, she had to leave it and come back to her place. She went into depression for almost two years because of this setback. Then she took support of dance to come out of her depression. She joined a master degree program from Gauhati University where she was the topper of her batch in 2007.

Speaking about her sources of inspiration, Sayanika says her husband has been an inspiration in her life. Her husband was the first person who encouraged her to learn classical dance. She also looks up to her sisters-in-law, as they are very much dedicated to their art. She also seeks inspiration from her grandmother, parents and uncle, who had faced a lot of struggle but still followed their passion and succeeded in their respective fields.

Talking about her mistakes, Sayanika says she underwent a two-year break in which she almost lost contact with her dance. This was her life’s major mistake, and she feels this shouldn’t have happened.

One of Sayanika's regrets is that she didn't meet her gurus a little earlier, so that she might have begun her dance journey sooner.

To calm her mind, Sayanika prays to God. She also enjoys talking to her husband, daughter and parents.
