Quality research shapes PhD students for a successful career.
Dr. Sanjeev Singhal is the Director-IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell), and Head of the PhD Cell at SAGE University, Indore looking after these important tasks at the university.
Shedding light on SAGE University, Indore, Dr. Sanjeev Singhal shares that the university has recently earned the NAAC A+ accreditation. He proudly shares that the university curriculum is considered the most important criteria in NAAC, and SAGE scored the maximum score for its curriculum, while also meeting the student satisfaction criteria set by NAAC. Dr. Singhal also highlights that more than 200-300 events are conducted at SAGE University annually, including seminars, conferences, value-added courses, and summer and winter schools, all of which have contributed to the university achieving NAAC accreditation.
With a focus on student welfare, the university has also implemented the National Education Policy and conducts quality checks from time to time. The university ensures student placements and has highly qualified and supportive faculty members teaching at the institute.
Talking about his role as the Head of the PhD Cell, Dr. Singhal shares that the PhD program at SAGE kicked off in 2018 with 14 research scholars and till today the department has had 700 scholars out of which 100 scholars have completed their PhD with flying colors. He shares that most of the scholars are required to do five research papers which are then published in Scopus-indexed journals.
Sharing his achievements, Dr. Singhal says he has over 43 research papers published in Scopus-indexed journals. He has authored five books in the past five years. One of his research papers on Market Behavior is among the top 10 most downloaded on Scopus, with over 1,200 downloads. Dr. Sanjeev also takes pride in being part of SAGE University, which has received NAAC A+ accreditation and has been featured in India Today and Competition Success Review rankings.
Reflecting on his professional experience, Dr. Sanjeev shares that after completing his undergraduate and postgraduate studies, he gained industry experience for 12 years before moving to academia. He then enrolled himself in a PhD program driven by his curiosity for research. His area of specialisation is Service Marketing, Marketing Behaviour, Guerrilla Marketing, Sensory Marketing, and Viral Marketing.
Speaking about his educational qualifications, Dr. Singhal says he was born in Indore and later shifted to Bhopal with his family. He completed his secondary schooling at Daly College, Indore, followed by his higher secondary education at BMS Bhopal. Thereafter, Dr. Singhal pursued his undergraduate studies at Bhopal School of Social Sciences and his MBA from the International Institute of Professional Studies, Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore.
After completing his MBA, Dr. Sanjeev returned to Bhopal and worked in the hotel and event management industry, focusing on marketing and managing a placement firm where he led a team of 23-24 members. The firm was ranked No. 1 in India and collaborated with major organizations like HSBC and AMC. Later, Dr. Sanjeev moved to Indore to be with his family. He has served as a guest faculty member at various colleges and eventually transitioned into academia full-time.
When asked about his role models, Dr. Sanjeev opines that role models evolve over time and with the profession we are in. He believes it is natural to have multiple role models as our inspirations change with different phases of our life. Currently, he draws inspiration from the esteemed Chancellor of SAGE University, Er. Sanjeev Agrawal, whose vision, innovative thinking, and leadership he finds remarkable.
In difficult times, Dr. Sanjeev recalls his father's advice: "Life is short, enjoy it." He believes that when we start enjoying life, it positively impacts our mindset, enabling us to achieve greater things.
In his message to PhD students, Dr. Sanjeev Singhal emphasizes the robust research environment provided to scholars at SAGE University. Scholars are required to publish at least five research papers during their PhD journey, ensuring they are well-prepared for direct appointments at the associate professor level upon graduation.
He highlights that "quality research" is the primary focus at SAGE University, fostering a bright future for PhD holders. Dr. Sanjeev also underscores the university's commitment to providing students with clarity about their career prospects and encouraging them to achieve their goals.
