Coming from a traditional business family, Dr Sangeeta did not have a conducive environment for higher studies in her home. But, she carried on and became a Professor teaching Pharmacology to medical students.

Dr. Sangeeta Gupta is a Professor and HOD of the Department of Pharmacology in Geetanjali Medical College, Udaipur. Earlier she used to teach the subject at RNT Medical College in Udaipur.

Dr. Sangeeta originally hails from Ajmer. She had her schooling from Ajmer itself. Her family was business-oriented so there wasn't much importance given to women’s education when she was young. Her parents sadly passed away when Sangeeta was at a tender age. However, she was provided a good education. She completed her MBBS from JLN Medical College. After her marriage she went to Ahmedabad but subsequently her husband was selected in RPSC and they shifted to Udaipur and both of them joined the RNT Medical College.

Sangeeta’s childhood dream was to become a doctor. She worked hard to fulfill her dreams. Her family wanted her to complete graduation and get married. But a family friend who is also a doctor advised her family to help her fulfill her wish of becoming a doctor.

Her family environment prohibited her from going outside and working after evening. She had to compromise a lot on her end. She had to wait for 10 years after her marriage to complete her M.D. as she had two kids and innumerable family responsibilities. Due to some health issues she did not opt for a practicing branch and adopted a non-clinical medical branch.

During covid 19, she made sure her department delivered lectures online. She faced initial difficulties but gradually got adapted to technology. However, from a personal standpoint, she was happy to spend more time with her family during the lockdown.

According to Dr. Sangeeta, for newcomers, apart from knowledge in the medical sciences, general empathy is also required in this profession. One should be patient, disciplined, and humble and also always keep themselves updated with the latest developments in the field.

Her sister’s husband, who was several years older than her,  inspired her a lot. He was from a poor family but he worked hard to become an engineer and the General Manager in  a renowned company. He knew the importance of good education and inspired her to become a doctor. His hard work, determination, and dedication to his profession, and his humility are some traits Sangeeta looks up to.

In her free time, Sangeeta likes to listen to old songs and watch television series. She also likes to cook and read books.

Even if given a chance to go back in a time machine, Sangeeta does not want to do so.

In her opinion, experience gives us the knowledge to develop our personality and helps us face challenges in our personal and professional life.

Sangeeta believes you should never be too satisfied and should always have a desire to learn and achieve more.
