Dr Sangeeta Choudhary is an Assistant Professor in the Civil Engineering Department at the Techno India NJR Institute of Technology in Udaipur. She has done her PhD from the MBM Engineering College, Jodhpur.
After doing her B.Tech, Sangeeta joined Rajan Associates as a Structural Engineer. She used to design RCC structures and residential and institutional buildings there. After gaining some experience she joined Pacific Institute of Technology in Udaipur as a lecturer. Thereafter she went to the MBM College, Jodhpur to do her M.Tech and Ph.D. In 2015 she joined Techno India as an Assistant professor and is currently the HOD of the Civil Engineering Department there.
Sangeeta says that at Techno India they focus more on practical learning and field training of their students. They organise a number of industrial and site visits to make the students understand in a better way what they are studying in the classroom. They take their students to dams and highways too. Many of her students are working on different projects under the Udaipur Smart City Limited. Several of her students have launched their startups and won awards for their performance.
Sangeeta says initially she was confused whether to go for civil engineering or architecture as the field work involved in civil engineering is generally not considered suitable for girls. But, once she took the plunge she started liking it.
Talking about her achievements, Sangeeta says that she had won the Best Presentation Award in an International Conference. She was also awarded as Best Faculty by the Times of India Udaipur Plus. She considers completing her PhD as a big achievement too.
Sangeeta says when Covid struck they quickly organised online teaching with the help of their college management which provided all the required infrastructure in no time.
Her advice to students is that they should focus more during their studies and prepare themselves in a way so that they get jobs as soon as they complete their studies. They should not get too relaxed in the earlier years of their studies. She thinks smartwork is better than mere hard work in today’s times.
In her free time, Sangeeta loves to listen to music and spend time with her family.
