An experienced Endocrinologist, Dr. Sandeep Julka has dedicated his life to improving the well-being of his patients. Dr. Julka believes in the power of prevention in healthcare and encourages the younger generation to contribute to nation-building.

Dr. Sandeep Julka is a dedicated Endocrinologist and is also the Founder of Radiance - The Hormone Health Clinic in Indore.

As an Endocrinologist, Dr. Julka treats problems related to multiple glands in the human body. Dr. Sandeep is from Indore and has been living there for the past 20 years.

Dr. Julka explains that Endocrinology is a relatively new branch of medicine that focuses on hormones and their impact on the body, including the pituitary, thyroid and adrenal glands, and the pancreas, bones, and fat cells. Endocrinologists primarily deal with conditions such as thyroid disorders, diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, growth disorders, and unwanted hair growth, among others.

With continuous advancements in this field, numerous new treatments and medications have been developed which are beneficial for treatment of patients suffering from hormonal problems. As it is said that "Prevention is better than cure," endocrinology strongly emphasizes preventive care, particularly in managing conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure before they become severe.

When asked about his achievements, Dr. Sandeep Julka shares that some of his most significant achievements are the moments when his patients, who arrive feeling anxious or distressed due to health issues, leave his clinic with a smile. This is the kind of satisfaction he values most in life, far surpassing any accolades or recognition from organizations.

He believes that in the field of medicine, especially in his role as an endocrinologist, the true reward lies in improving the well-being of his patients and seeing them leave with peace of mind. For Dr. Julka, the fulfillment derived from helping others is incomparable, and no other profession, even the field of Finance, can offer the same sense of purpose and satisfaction that comes with being a doctor.

Endocrinologist Dr. Julka says he had heard in many big talk shows that the greatest fulfillment in life comes from doing work that brings happiness to others. Inspired by that, he has treated many individuals with long- drawn health issues. Many of his patients travel hundreds of kilometers to seek his expertise. The gratitude from these patients, especially when they return to better health, is a reward beyond any accolades or recognition.

As the saying goes that one should always listen to their wife, Dr. Julka  is grateful for doing that only at an important juncture in his life. Initially, he had an interest in Cardiology, but it was his wife—who is also a doctor and the head of the Anatomy department—who encouraged him to pursue Endocrinology, and today he finds great joy and fulfillment in being an endocrinologist.

Talking about his achievements in some other pursuits, Dr. Sandeep Julka says he had always excelled in sports. He was a national-level player in Football having represented Madhya Pradesh in the same,  and had been actively involved in athletics since his college days. He represented his college in Lawn Tennis and participated at the university level in athletics. Two years ago, he even won a cricket tournament trophy, showcasing his versatility. For his accomplishments in various sports he was known as a ‘Jack of all trades’.

He completed his 11th and 12th from Kendriya Vidyalaya. After 12th, he pursued his specialization in Endocrinology at the prestigious Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI), one of India's best and among the world's top centers in this field. SGPGI is renowned for its cutting-edge research and world-class faculty, and where many famous research papers have been published. Later, he completed his Doctor of Medicine (MD) from Indore. Dr. Julka feels truly blessed to have trained under such experienced teachers and  mentors.

When it comes to role models, Dr. Julka says he believes that people often choose their role models based on their life experiences, environment, and personal values. In both personal and professional life, individuals look up to different people at different stages, as there is no fixed role model for everyone.

Coming from an army background and being actively involved in sports throughout his life,  he considers Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi as his role models. From his professional world, he admires Dr. Ambrish Mithal and the esteemed faculty members at SGPGI for their expertise and contributions to endocrinology.

He believes that role models evolve with time, shaped by your new experiences and insights. Recently, he was inspired by a podcast featuring Anand Mahindra on work-life balance. Additionally, he deeply respects veteran soldiers who have dedicated their lives to the nation. Dr. Julka strongly believes that everyone should adopt positive qualities from others, continuously upgrade themselves, and strive to become the best version of who they can be.

Reflecting on his childhood and early years, Dr. Sandeep shares that he  was born and raised in Jhansi. Shortly after his birth, the Indo-Pak war of 1971 began. His family moved to Punjab to stay at his maternals’ place as his father had to actively participate in the war.

After the war, his father, who served in the army, was transferred to various locations, including Ambala, Ranchi, Hyderabad, and eventually Indore. Having lived in multiple states and studied in many schools due to his father's transfers, Dr. Sandeep Julka experienced a disciplined and dynamic upbringing. This exposure to diverse environments shaped his perspective and instilled in him a deep respect for the armed forces. He has always aspired to give back to the army community in a meaningful way.

Dr. Sandeep Julka often recites the shloka,

"जननी जन्मभूमिश्च स्वर्गादपि गरीयसी"........

……..which means that “Your Mother and your Motherland are greater than heaven.”

He believes this is a principle everyone should follow, especially those serving in the army. Every soldier is taught that the safety, honor, and welfare of the nation come first, the welfare of those they command comes next, and personal safety comes last.

Dr. Julka emphasizes that this mindset should not be limited to the armed forces but should extend to all professions—whether one is a doctor, businessman, or student. He exhorts everyone to adopt a similar sense of duty, put the nation first, then your colleagues and community, and only then consider your personal welfare. These guiding principles, he believes, can lead to a stronger and more united society.

A line that Dr. Sandeep Julka read somewhere always motivates him and that is,

“जीवन में अपना किरदार इतनी शिद्दत से  निभाएं कि पर्दा गिरने के बाद भी तालियाँ बजती रहें”

This message, which Dr. Julka cherishes, encapsulates his belief in the lasting impact of his work and efforts. He strongly believes that whether in his medical practice or through Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, the work he does should leave a lasting legacy. He hopes that his efforts will be remembered and appreciated for years to come, even long after he is gone.

When discussing his struggles and challenges, Dr. Julka says he views them as stepping stones to innovation. He believes that creativity thrives when one steps out of their comfort zone. He feels, over the years, his challenges have been few, as he has always maintained his physical fitness. He continues to run half marathons, play lawn tennis, and participate in cricket events organized by the Indian Medical Association.

In terms of academic challenges, he recalls the difficulties like adjusting to new environments caused by frequent transfers of his father. Despite that, he managed to excel in both academics and sports. He didn’t see those as challenges but as opportunities for personal growth and achievement. Dr. Julka has always been prepared to face challenges.

A famous quotation told to him by his father which he cherishes is: "The more you sweat in peace, the less you bleed in war." This means that when you are well-prepared for any situation, the chances of facing problems in a more challenging scenario are significantly reduced. Preparation helps you tackle difficulties in a better and more efficient manner.

Dr. Julka encourages those aspiring to pursue a career in medicine, particularly MBBS students, to remember that there is no greater profession than becoming a doctor. Dr. Julka himself is always committed to lifelong learning, as he believes doctors must always stay updated with the latest medical advancements.

Dr. Sandeep Julka also has a message for the younger generation based on his  knowledge of geopolitics. He highlights India’s glorious past, citing that in the 1700s, India accounted for  24-26% of the world’s GDP. After the British colonial era, India's economy faced challenges, and its contribution declined. Dr. Julka says he got to know about this from Shashi Tharoor’s writings and talks. He mentions that Shashi Tharoor is a great writer and politician, who describes in his writings how India lost $45 trillion during the colonial era.

However, after experiencing a long period of poverty and decline, India, on a reviving path,  is now on the road to becoming the third-largest economy in the world. Dr. Sandeep Julka credits the youth of India for this achievement, as they are the driving force behind the country's growth and future prosperity.

Dr. Sandeep Julka emphasizes that doctors, especially during their residency, often work more hours than the average person could endure. However, he believes it’s not about working solely for the results but about doing work that satisfies and suits one’s inner passion. He advises young people to always put their country first, even if it means dedicating just one hour a day to nation-building.

He encourages the youth to contribute to the country's progress. He highlights India’s immense potential due to its vast human resources, which can outpace other nations. The country is home to numerous corporations and startups that are driving innovation and creating employment opportunities. These sectors are key in India’s growth, both militarily and economically.

Dr. Julka urges young minds to stay motivated, seek more knowledge, and avoid wasting time. Ultimately, the goal should be to contribute to the country’s growth and become a part of its transformation into a global superpower.
