Dr. Sachin Sharma is the Deputy Director of the IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell) at Oriental University, Indore. He has 14 years of experience in the education, academics and administrative fields.
Dr. Sachin Sharma highlights that the IQAC focuses on improving the quality of education provided to the students at the university. It also strives to bring improvements in quality of the faculty, the organization, and the university as a whole. It looks after areas such as student placements, faculty exchange programs, faculty development programs (FDPs), lectures, research, and publications. Additionally, it supervises efforts related to patents being filed under Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and monitors progress in terms of Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) signed by the institution.
Dr. Sharma explains that all the above mentioned aspects fall under the purview of the IQAC. The cell is also responsible for finalizing the Annual Quality Report (AQR) and connecting student achievements to learning outcomes. It ensures that students derive tangible benefits from their education, especially after graduation.
Dr. Sachin Sharma’s role at IQAC is focused on enhancing the overall quality of education at the university, with a vision that spans from individual students to the entire university. He is dedicated to improving the learning experience for the students. He mentions that, established in 2011, Oriental University holds the distinction of being the first private university in the state of Madhya Pradesh. It has shown remarkable growth over the years, and his vision aligns with ensuring that students who join this institution have ample opportunities to learn and grow.
As the Deputy Director of the IQAC, Dr. Sachin Sharma aims to provide the students with comprehensive learning experiences, including training programs, industrial visits, and opportunities to explore the outside world. His goal is for students to genuinely feel a sense of improvement within themselves and to be exposed to something new and valuable every day.
Dr. Sharma reveals that his career began in 2011 as a lecturer, but his ultimate goal had always been to pursue administrative roles. Over time, as he progressed in his career, he gradually received opportunities to take on administrative responsibilities. He advanced to become a Head of Department (HoD) and later the Dean of Academics.
Reflecting on his inspirations, Dr. Sharma says his work itself is his source of inspiration, especially his involvement with the IQAC. He finds immense satisfaction in the dynamic nature of the IQAC, where every day brings something new to learn. For instance, completing a task would always lead to reflecting on the lessons it offered. He considers the IQAC a learning platform that has provided him with numerous opportunities for growth and development.
Recalling his early years, Dr. Sachin Sharma shares that his family hails from Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, but he was born and raised in Udaipur, where he also completed his education. He reflects on the challenges he faced during his studies, primarily due to a lack of resources, which made his educational path difficult.
Driven by these experiences, his main aim is to ensure that the hurdles he encountered are not faced by other students. He is committed to doing everything in his power to support and assist students so they can have a smoother and more enriching educational experience.
When asked about his role models, Dr. Sachin Sharma says he considers his parents his role models and also draws inspiration from Lord Krishna. He admires Lord Krishna for the exceptional planning and management he displayed throughout the Mahabharata, describing it as truly commendable. He believes that by following Lord Krishna's principles, he can achieve effective management and reach greater heights in his journey.
He attributes his success to the blessings and guidance of his parents, who have played a pivotal role in shaping his life. He aspires to soar even higher with the blessings of both his parents and Lord Krishna. He recommends that reading the Mahabharata and the Bhagavad Gita provides invaluable lessons in management, offering wisdom and strategies that are aptly applicable in modern contexts.
The lines that motivate Dr. Sachin are: “खुद की मेहनत, खुद का दम और खुद की अक़्ल।” (It should be your own hard work, determination, and intellect.) He elaborates that if you continue to work hard, success is inevitable. The path may be filled with obstacles, but overcoming those hurdles and staying focused on your goal will lead to success. He firmly believes in never stopping or giving up. Instead, he advises taking one step at a time, consistently moving forward with determination and self-belief. Dr. Sachin emphasizes that with perseverance and confidence in your abilities, you will ultimately reach your destination.
Reflecting on his hardships, Dr. Sharma shares the greatest struggle of his life was when he wanted to earn an engineering degree but was surrounded by difficulties. Coming from extreme poverty, he recalls how, 25 years ago, even securing daily meals was a challenge for his family. Despite these difficulties, he was able to overcome the odds with the support of kind-hearted individuals and, most importantly, through the hard work and determination of his parents.
As he progressed in his education, he gradually carved his way to the field of engineering. During this journey, he appeared for several government exams, successfully qualifying in each one. With unwavering dedication and relentless effort, Dr. Sharma continued to move forward, achieving one milestone after another. His story is a testament to the power of perseverance and resilience.
His greatest achievement is reaching the position of Deputy Director at such a young age. This accomplishment has been possible through his hard work, the blessings of his elders and Lord Krishna, believes Sachin Sharma.
He advises everyone to work hard, have faith in yourself, and never hesitate to take action. To students, he suggests focusing on their studies and having a clear vision of where they want to reach in life. He says the IQAC serves as a platform that helps identify one's goals and direction in life. He emphasizes that all young individuals should be clear about their future path. For this, they should have a well-defined vision, a well thought plan, and most importantly, a belief in themselves. He firmly believes that if you work hard, you will never fail.
His message to the young members and faculty of Oriental University is that he is always there to offer whatever help and support he can through his role at the platform provided by the IQAC. Dr. Sharma is deeply grateful to Oriental University for giving him the opportunity to reach the position of Deputy Director, allowing him to contribute positively to the development and success of others within the university.
Dr. Sachin Sharma shares that coming to Oriental University has been a significant learning experience for him, and he is grateful for the opportunity to explore new things. He considers the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Dr. Dhruva Ghai, as his role model, from whom he has learned a great deal.
