Under his leadership, the university’s PhD programs attract researchers from around the world, who conduct research under the guidance of the university’s experienced professors. He also manages the PhD admission process, research work, publications and various academic assessments, including the DRC, the RDC, and the Pre-PhD Viva.
The Faculty of Pharmacy at Oriental University offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including a 100-student intake for the B Pharm program and 60 students for the Diploma in Pharmacy. There are four specialized branches for the M Pharm program: Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, and Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance, with 15 seats allocated to each branch by the Pharmacy Council of India.
Dr. Jain places a strong emphasis on discipline and structured learning in the classroom and the laboratory. The faculty members, all experienced professionals, follow strict guidelines to ensure that students receive a thorough education.
The laboratory sessions are carefully scheduled and managed to maximize students' learning experiences. Currently, at Oriental University, Dr. Jain is serving as a PhD guide to eight students, supporting them in their research journeys and shaping the next generation of scholars in the field of pharmacy.
In their diploma courses, mid-term tests are conducted every two months, while the semester-based courses follow a six-month schedule. To ensure students receive proper guidance and consistently upgrade themselves, they provide regular mentoring sessions. These sessions help students align with their goals and enhance their skills effectively.
Additionally, they have a robust feedback system in place. Regular feedback is collected from both students and faculty members to ensure the highest standards of teaching and learning. The university places a strong emphasis on student satisfaction and the quality of education. They continuously strive to take every possible step to ensure students progress on the path of success and excellence in their academic journey.
In postgraduate programs, the first and second semesters primarily focus on theoretical learning, while the third and fourth semesters emphasize practical application. During the third semester, students prepare for their research work, which they will undertake in the fourth semester.
As part of this preparation, students develop a synopsis outlining their research plan. Over the next six months, they refine and compile their findings, culminating in a detailed PowerPoint presentation. This presentation serves as a stepping stone, enabling students to confidently embark on their professional careers.
Speaking of PhD programs, he mentions that he is also serving as the PhD Coordinator in the Pharmacy Department. In this role, he is responsible for overseeing the entire process, from the admission of students to the awarding of their PhD degrees.
His responsibilities include ensuring a smooth admission process, managing the Doctoral Research Committee (DRC) meetings, assisting in the preparation of their research synopsis, coordinating the Research Degree Committee (RDC) process, and monitoring the progress reports submitted every six months.
Additionally, he actively supports students in their research work by providing the necessary resources and guidance. He helps them prepare for their pre-PhD viva and offers continuous mentorship to ensure they excel in their research and move forward towards a successful career. His goal is to provide all possible assistance and direction to help students achieve academic excellence and professional growth.
Dr. Sachin Kumar Jain was born in 1980 in Satna, Madhya Pradesh, where he completed his schooling at Sindhu Higher Secondary School. With aspirations of entering the medical field, he dedicated himself to preparing for the Pre-Medical Examination but, unfortunately, did not secure selection. Undeterred, he pivoted to the Pharmacy stream and pursued his B.Pharm at B.R. Nahata College of Pharmacy (BRNCP), Mandsaur.
Due to financial constraints, Dr. Jain took on teaching responsibilities to support himself, teaching diploma-level pharmacy students for a year between 2004 and 2005. He then continued his academic journey by pursuing an M.Pharm in Pharmacology at the same institution from 2005 to 2007.
In 2007, he began his professional career as a lecturer at Vedica College of Pharmacy, Bhopal, where he worked for two years. His academic pursuits remained a priority, and he relocated to Indore to undertake a PhD at the School of Pharmacy, Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya. Dr. Jain successfully earned his PhD in 2017, marking a significant milestone in his journey of commitment and dedication to the field of pharmacy.
After completing his PhD, Dr. Sachin Kumar Jain joined IPS Academy - College of Pharmacy as an Assistant Professor, where he taught undergraduate students in his area of expertise. Alongside fostering academic excellence, he emphasized the importance of imparting ethical values in his students. In 2018, he was promoted to the position of Associate Professor within the same institution.
While continuing his teaching responsibilities, Dr. Jain simultaneously advanced his work in the field of research, contributing significantly to the academic community. In 2022, he was appointed as a Professor at Oriental University - Faculty of Pharmacy. Currently, he serves as the Head of the Department (HoD) at the same institution, where he continues to inspire students and contribute to the development of the field.
Regarding his role models, Dr. Sachin Kumar Jain says he considers Prof. Shailendra Saraf, who was the Principal at B.R. Nahata College of Pharmacy, as his first role model. Under his guidance Dr. Jain completed his B.Pharm course. Appreciating his strictness, adherence to rules and regulations, and his focus on academics, Dr. Jain inculcated the same into his own studies. This disciplined approach has significantly shaped his academic journey and contributed to his success, allowing him to uphold high standards in his professional life as well.
Additionally, Prof. Saraf’s wife, Dr. Swarnalata Saraf, taught Dr. Jain in the first, second, and third semesters, and he was greatly inspired by her teaching. He was deeply impressed by her work ethics and guidance, which played a significant role in shaping his academic path.
Besides, he also mentions that many teachers have come into his life, and he still remembers them today, such as Dr. Arun Gupta, Dr. Satish Nayak, Dr. Umesh Jain, Dr. Umesh Patil, and Dr. S.S. Chandel. These teachers taught him the values of ethics and the mysteries of life, as well as the challenges he would face in future. He believes it is because of them that he has reached this point today and is able to serve the students.
He likes a poem written by his friend very much which goes:
"वक्त का यह परिंदा रुका है कहाँ, मैं था पागल जो उसको बुलाता रहा। चार पैसे कमाने मैं आया था शहर, गाँव मेरा मुझे याद आता रहा।"
He explains that even today, there is one undeniable truth in this world: we are but travelers, destined to journey elsewhere. Therefore, as long as we are here, we must strive to give our very best.
Dr. Sachin Kumar Jain advises students that the process of development is ongoing, and the government is making every effort to ensure our country becomes a developed nation. Compared to the past, the Faculty of Pharmacy has been significantly upgraded, and there has been an improvement in the quality and standards of students. Efforts have been made to keep the faculty up to current norms.
In terms of research, he mentions that many new instruments have been introduced in the department, such as FTIR, HPLC, Resolution Test Operators, UVIR spectroscopy, punching machines, and many more. He believes that teachers and students are like two sides of the same coin. Their collaboration is essential for both to upgrade themselves and give their best.
In today’s technological age, students have access to a wealth of learning techniques, but there are certain things that only a teacher can teach. By connecting the past with the present, it is the teacher who will guide you in understanding what you can do better.
Dr. Jain encourages the students that if they have chosen to take admission here, they must attend classes regularly. He emphasizes the importance of sitting in class to gain knowledge, which will help them advance in life.
