Talking about her career, Dr. Chaturvedi shares that she completed her BDS in 2005. Thereafter, she delved into teaching and taught at a dental college for three and a half years. Dr. Roopali then relocated to Mumbai after marriage, took a break to settle in, and later decided to open her own clinic.
Dr. Roopali practiced under dental professionals before starting her private practice. Having a clinic of her own was always her dream, so she joined a government hospital and practiced general dentistry. She tries her best to fulfil the needs and wants of the patients coming to her clinic.
Reflecting on her early days, Dr. Roopali shares that she was born in Madhya Pradesh. When she was just nine months old, her father’s job transfer moved the family to Maharashtra. She graduated from a government college in Nagpur and later pursued additional courses in Periodontics, Facial Aesthetics, and dental surgeries to upskill herself and stay current with technological advancements.
During COVID times, Dr. Roopali pursued a distance learning MBA in Healthcare Management to feed her curiosity.
When asked about her role models, Dr. Roopali says she looks up to her mother whom she sadly lost to cancer in 2016. She recollects how her mother, despite studying in Hindi medium and coming from a lower-middle class family, wanted her children to study in an English medium school. Though residing in a small town in Maharashtra, her mother showed resilience and learnt swimming, driving, and even opened her own clothing shop. All this inspired Dr. Chaturvedi and she decided to stand on her own two feet and become the first doctor in her family.
Dr. Chaturvedi finds motivation in the lines, “Kehte hain agar kisi cheez ko dil se chaho, to puri kainaat usse tumse milane ki koshish mein lag jaati hai…” She has experienced and applied this in her real life and assures everyone that if you chase your goals with dedication, you definitely achieve them.
Describing her struggles, Dr. Roopali shares with a sinking heart how her husband left her eight years ago and today she single-handedly takes care of her daughter which has also brought her significant challenges. She has struggled a lot to open her clinic independently from scratch while taking care of other expenses and her 6-year-old daughter all on her own. Dr. Roopali feels that she has learned a lot from her struggles, and assures that struggles, if taken in a positive way, can change your life for the better and help fulfil all your desires.
Highlighting her achievements, Dr. Roopali shares that establishing her own clinic and serving people genuinely without any profit motive has given her the real taste of happiness and a sound sleep at night. She feels if you are honest towards your work, you sleep peacefully.
Advising budding dentists, Dr. Roopali urges them to embrace their field wholeheartedly rather than regretting not pursuing MBBS. She emphasises that recognizing themselves as specialists of the oral cavity will enhance their ability to serve patients effectively. Dr. Chaturvedi also advises continuous self-upgradation, practising, and gaining experience under a professional. She strongly advises against treating patients independently without proper training.
“If you love something, do it; and if you are doing it, love it”, quotes Dr. Roopali, emphasizing that you ought to be passionate about whatever you do in life.
Having lived her life as a single woman, Dr. Roopali advises all women to become financially independent which will help bolster their confidence and enable you to take your own decisions in face of adversity. She feels whether it is men or women, none should be dependent on anyone and they should also learn to deal with themselves and their emotions. “Be strong” is the message she has for everyone.
Lastly, Dr. Roopali wishes for a better and improved version of the judicial system of India with a greater sensitivity towards its citizens.
