Dr. Riya Soni is a Dentist and has been running a clinic by the name ‘Navkar Dental Clinic’ in Bhuj from the last two years. She is also a Travel Blogger.
Dr. Riya belongs to Kutch district of Gujarat. She did her schooling from St. Xavier’s School. Then she did her BDS and a one-year training from Pacific Dental College, Udaipur. She took her first job in Lions Hospital, Bhuj and worked there for a year. Then she felt that she could handle a clinic single-handedly. She joined hands with Ankit Doshi, one of the finest Dentists of the city, and is currently handling a newly opened clinic set up by him.
Talking about the fond memories of her childhood, Dr. Riya says that she lived in a joint family and was a single child for a long time due to which she had the best time with her grandparents who pampered her a lot. Apart from this, she grew up seeing her father treating patients and since then she also thought of becoming one, no matter what. She says that she was obsessed with her teeth hygiene since childhood and so she chose Dentistry for her career.
Talking about her struggles, Dr. Riya says that in 11th and 12th, she had to face the maximum challenge because then, the education system had changed a bit. Due to which neither the school nor the coaching teachers knew the teaching pedagogy which stressed her because she had to take Science as her subject going forward. So for both of these years, she studied very hard as she used to have Board exams every six months. But her hard work paid off and today she has become a Dentist. Besides this, she faced challenges when she moved to Udaipur at a young age for further studies as she had to manage everything on her own, staying away from her family but she handled it well too.
Describing her achievements, Dr. Riya says that apart from studies, she has also been very active in sports and extracurricular activities since childhood. She had always participated in inter school and college competitions and tournaments in sports and other cultural activities and even won many times.
During the Covid pandemic, Dr. Riya was panicking because being a Dentist, she had to work very closely with the patients and as this disease was spreading by being in contact with people, she was afraid that she might get infected. But after the lockdown was imposed, she also closed her clinic and stayed at home for a few months. In case of emergency, she used to treat patients at home and give them medicines. During the second wave, her grandparents got infected with Covid-19 and both of them died due to continuous deteriorating health which devastated her. So her Covid experience on both personal and professional front has been very bad and horrible.
When asked about role models, Dr. Riya says that she considers her father as her inspiration because watching him practice, she also became passionate about becoming a doctor. She also considers her mother and her grandparents as her role models for always supporting her, giving her the best education and standing for her.
In her spare time, Dr. Riya enjoys doing self photography, dancing, painting and watching good series or movies. Apart from this, being a travel blogger, she works in collaboration with brands and does photoshoot, editing and content creation for them.
If given a chance to travel back in time, Dr. Riya would like to spend more time with her grandparents and relive her college life.
Dr. Riya advises the newcomers who want to get into Dentistry to have good theoretical knowledge about it but along with it hands-on experience also matters a lot. Also, don’t lie to your patients and satisfy them by giving good and painless treatment as long as possible. And if someone wants to come into travel blogging, she advises them to follow their heart, do whatever you like to do and don’t think what people will say. She suggests them to try to make their content best and original and their followers will start increasing.
