Renu always wanted to become a teacher because of the respect she saw for the teacher fraternity. She has been in this profession for the last twenty-one years and is working diligently to make the future of the students bright.

Dr. Renu Soni is a Senior Science Teacher at St. Mary’s School, Udaipur. She has been in this profession for the last twenty-one years.

Dr. Renu hails from Udaipur. She completed her schooling from St. Mary’s School and today she is teaching in the same school. She says that her parents wanted her to become a doctor, so she gave the PMT exam. But she could not clear it. Thereafter she did her PhD in Cell Biology and got married. Along with her teaching job, she did B.Ed and PhD in Naturopathy and Yogic Science. Even after that she continued her studies which is still going on.

Remembering her childhood, Dr. Renu says that she got inspired by Father Kinley’s words that, ‘a teacher builds the world’. That’s when she had decided that she would be a teacher when she grows up.

Dr. Renu says that she started her first teaching job with St. Anne's School, Udaipur. That school was in a village, where she had to teach the children in English medium and the students of all age groups used to sit in the same class. It was a big challenge for her. But gradually she handled the situation and taught those children regardless of their age. After that she worked in many other schools and finally came to St. Mary’s and is working there till date.

Dr. Renu feels that the education industry has gone two years back due to Covid. Although all the classes have been shifted to online mode and teachers are working hard to teach the students, still the education system is suffering a lot. She says that in the initial days, it was very difficult for teachers to take online classes and teach on online platforms because that was not their thing. But gradually they became comfortable with the online teaching system. She says that when the lockdown opened, they conducted online and offline classes simultaneously. She feels that when everything will come back to normal, then it will take four-five years to bring the children to their actual levels and standards.

Dr. Renu shares that she has always loved dancing but due to not having much exposure to dance at that time, she could not make her career in it. But today her daughter has that same talent and she is doing everything possible to take her daughter forward in dance. And this is what makes her feel that she is fulfilling her dreams through her children.

Talking about mistakes, Dr. Renu says she hasn’t made any big mistakes in life but there are two things that she counts as mistakes. One is that she feels she is too outspoken and the other is that she was overconfident at some things.

Dr. Renu advises the young generation to keep on learning and gaining knowledge as it will help you to grow. Always be patient, respect your elders and develop the values.

Dr. Renu considers Father Kinley as her role model because his words inspired her so much that she has become what she is today. Sister Suchita is also her role model for always supporting her in every situation. Apart from this, she considers Dr. Abdul Kalam as her role model because he always used to say that people should remember me as a teacher and not the President. So she is very much influenced by his thoughts, messages and life history.

If Dr. Renu ever gets a chance to go back in time, she would like to relive her teenage years.  She cherishes those school days of hers a lot.

In her spare time, Dr. Renu loves to dance, draw, paint and sketch. Apart from this she loves listening to old songs, especially, Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar songs, besides meditating, cooking and reading.

Dr. Renu advises the newcomers that if you are interested in teaching then only you should come into this profession. Don’t just come with the intention of making money because a teacher is responsible for the entire future of a child.
