Ratan is a doctor and always had a zeal to join the medical field. He says that people are more aware nowadays and hence increased patience is required now.

Dr. Ratan Lal Yadav is working as an Assistant Professor at JLN Medical College, Ajmer. He is an MBBS and MD in Anesthesiology and belongs to Sikar District in Rajasthan.

Ratan was born in the Bhadwari village of Khandela Tehsil in the Sikar district of Rajasthan. He did his schooling at government schools in Bhadwari itself. For his Senior Secondary classes, he went to a nearby town and opted for Biology.

Ratan says that he always wanted to join the medical field but the financial condition of his family was not good and hence he didn’t push much for this dream of his. Ratan says that he took admission in B.Sc. and once a professor of his, after seeing his exceptionally well marks, asked Ratan to try the medical field. Ratan says that his family also agreed and supported him after this. He did not take any coaching due to the financial crunch and went to Sikar for self-study.

Ratan says that it took him five attempts to get his desired field through the Pre-Medical Test (PMT). In his first attempt, he missed by a small margin. In his second attempt, he got BDS and didn’t opt for it. He got a Veterinary College on his third attempt and didn’t join it. However, after his fourth attempt, he joined a Veterinary College in Hyderabad and later got shifted to one in Rajasthan. Ratan continued his studies and finally got to Government College, Kota, and did his MBBS from there.

While in college, Ratan got inspired by his professors and how they were giving to this society by producing new doctors. From here, Ratan got the stimulus to be a teacher in this field. However, he also had to support his family financially and hence started trying for a government job.

He got selected in the Medical Officer examination and served as a Medical Officer from 2013-15 in CHCC in Mau which comes under Sawai Madhopur. Ratan had decided to do PG and started studying for it. He got selected with the help of departmental quota and did his PG in Anesthesiology from JLN Medical College, Ajmer. After that, he was taken back by his department and was posted in a Sub-district hospital. Ratan also completed one year of Senior Residentship which is necessary to become a Professor in Medicine.

Ratan says that he appeared in the Assistant Professor examination conducted by Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) and reached the interview stage. He shares that he was quite skeptical about the interview phase as he comes from a Hindi Medium background and had the misconception in mind that only English Medium students can do well in interviews. However, he cleared the interview with good marks and secured a seat, and is working as an Assistant Professor in JLN Medical College, Ajmer.

Ratan feels that during his struggle phase people used to taunt at his failures and made it difficult for him to even visit his village. However, he says that we should ignore such taunts and put in continuous efforts to achieve our goals.

Ratan shares that his field of work is one that works behind the curtain and is not much known to people. It is important to sedate patients during operations so that they do not have to go through the pain of the surgery. Anesthesia also plays an important role in keeping a track of ICU patients and their vitals.

Ratan advises new entrants to this field to have dedication and patience. He emphasizes the fact that it is a long process that requires many phases to be cleared. Pressure from family members of the patients is also much nowadays. He says that keeping cordial behavior with the patients is also important.

Ratan feels that Leadership came to him while working under and now above many people. He says that as we work, we realize the importance of a team and how necessary it is to keep everyone on the same page. He says that being a tyrant or a boss never helps and is not a good quality.

If given a Time Machine, Ratan would like to relive his childhood days when there were no worries and life was easy and innocent.

In his free time, Ratan likes to spend time with his family and go out with them on trips.
