Dr. Rakesh Bhandari has been in the field of Technical Teaching for the last eighteen years. He has done his schooling from Birla School in Pilani, Rajasthan. After that, he did his Mechanical Engineering from MBM Engineering College, Jodhpur.
Rakesh joined Nirmala Ltd. to get some exposure and experience in the field but soon decided to quit the same and entered the IT field. Then he joined C-DAC, Bangalore, and shifted to the IT field. However, Rakesh says that it was a time of recession in this field and hence he returned home.
Once back, for around one and a half years, Rakesh worked as a visiting faculty in one of the nearby colleges. He says that he was always good at academics and when he started teaching, he gradually grew interested in the field. He then went for his masters from NITTTR, Chandigarh, and then completed his Doctorate from Sangam University, Bhilwara.
Rakesh has been HoD since his career started and is currently working as a Dean of the Research Department at Sangam University. He shares that around 200 scholars are researching in his university presently.
He says that he has also been connected to sports from his school days and has played sports like Table Tennis, Basketball, and Cricket. Rakesh says that he has a good circle of friends and has always been a friendly and easy-to-gel-with person.
Rakesh feels that shifting from a technical field to the IT field was a tough decision and did not turn out well. It affected his confidence and self-doubt crept in. However, his parents always supported him in every decision of his.
Rakesh ponders upon the impact of the Covid pandemic and says that it has completely changed the way the Education Sector works. He says that everything moved online and digital. Also, people became more focused on their health and enlightenment did hit us hard that this life is fragile and should not be taken for granted.
Rakesh feels that the biggest achievement for a teacher is seeing their students progress in life. He is also happy that some of his research papers are getting a good number of citations and recognition.
Rakesh feels that Experience and Education both are important but Experience is a step ahead. He says that a person should have a ‘T’ shaped knowledge gain in life where the horizontal arm refers to a basic knowledge of every subject and the vertical arm refers to in-depth knowledge of one particular subject.
Rakesh shares that his inspiration is Prof. B. R. Natrajan who is a core academician and has always inspired Rakesh through his knowledge and calm nature.
Rakesh advises people eyeing a career in teaching to be wholeheartedly dedicated towards it and get into it only if they love the profession. He feels that loving what you are doing is very important for self-satisfaction.
In his free time, Rakesh likes to play cards with his friends and family. He also likes to have chit-chat sessions with them.
