Dr. Rajesh Kumar Agarwal is a surgeon who specializes in laparoscopic and laser surgeries. He works at the American International Institute of Medical Sciences in Udaipur. He has been working in Udaipur for more than two and a half years, and he also teaches medical students. Altogether, he has been in this profession for about eight to nine years.
Rajesh was born in a small village called Akra Bhatta near Abu Road in Rajasthan. He finished his schooling up to the 12th grade in Abu Road itself. After that, he went to a medical college in Maharashtra to study medicine and earned his MBBS degree. He underwent further training, following which he pursued his post-graduation (PG) and worked for more than five to six years in Gurgaon. For the last two and a half years, he has been working in Udaipur.
Remembering his childhood, Dr. Rajesh recalls growing up in a big, close-knit family. He used to enjoy playing both outdoor and indoor games during those days, and he really misses the time he spent with his joint family.
He had two compelling reasons to opt for a career in medicine. Firstly, he found himself less adept in Math and Physics, steering his focus toward Biology. Secondly, influenced by his father's wish to have one of his children become a doctor, Rajesh decided to tread down that path.
Rajesh says that he faced a challenging situation during his school years. Up until class 10, he studied in a school affiliated to the CBSE board. However, due to some issues, he had to give his 10th-grade exam conducted by the Rajasthan Board. This was tough for him because he had been preparing for the CBSE board, and the change posed a significant challenge.
After finishing his 12th-grade exams, he went to the Allen Institute in Kota to prepare for the medical entrance exam. He took two attempts to clear the exam. Eventually, he secured a seat at the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences. He ranked 294th in the entrance exam and earned admission to a college in Loni, Maharashtra. He considers this achievement as one of the most significant milestones in his life, bringing pride not only to himself but also to his family.
After completing his MBBS and internship, he passed the PG (post-graduation) entrance exam on his first attempt. He secured a rank of around 2500 and gained admission to a college in Chennai, where he successfully completed his master's degree in General Surgery. This accomplishment was another source of pride for him as he secured the seat in the college in Chennai without giving any capitation fee or seeking any favors from anyone.
When asked about his role models, Rajesh points to his parents as his greatest inspirations. He explains that his father worked in government service and often had to travel to different places. Meanwhile, his mother made a significant sacrifice by consistently staying with their joint family.
Dr. Rajesh comes from a family of achievers, with three siblings: one is a businessman, another is an IAS officer, and the third is a judge. He believes that their accomplishments are a result of his father's determination and the strong values he instilled in them.
Comparing the two, he feels that both education and experience are equally important.
Dr. Rajesh's message to the young people is simple yet important. He advises them not to assume that their parents are wrong. Instead, he encourages young individuals to respect their parents' opinions and decisions. If they have different aspirations, he suggests having a polite and honest conversation with their parents to seek their permission and understanding. He also advises against leaving parents behind to study in big cities or foreign countries without proper arrangements.
After wrapping up work at four PM, Dr. Rajesh cherishes the time spent with his family, particularly his daughters. Recognizing the precious and irreplaceable nature of their childhood, he values every moment with them. Beyond family time, he finds joy in music, indulging in karaoke singing, and engaging in daily conversations with his mother.
If he had a time machine to go back in time, he would use it to save his father's life by reducing the distance between them when his father needed help urgently.
He finds inspiration in the quote "Do good without expecting results."
Lastly, Dr. Rajesh expresses gratitude to his parents for their struggles and compromises that have brought him to where he is today.
