A Vikram Sarabhai Fine Arts Fellow, Dr. Raj has travelled throughout Assam to learn the traditional art of the state and aims to guide the scholars in their research work. He has taught printmaking, painting, and applied arts, and has guided students for their PhD degrees.

Dr. Raj Kumar Mazinder is a Visual Artist. Presently he is working as an Assistant Professor of Visual Arts at Assam University, Silchar since 2009.

From 1985 to 1990, Dr. Raj studied painting at Visva Bharati in Shantiniketan. After that, he enrolled in the printing program at MSC University's Faculty of Fine Arts in Vadodara. He returned to his hometown after completing the course. After being awarded a Vikram Sarabhai Fine Arts Fellowship, he travelled throughout Assam studying ancient art forms and looking into materials he might use for his own artistic endeavours. His paintings capture the essence of the natural environment of Assam, his birthplace.

Dr. Raj began working at the Department of Commerce's Commercial Museum at Guwahati University in 1995. After that, he enrolled at Assam University in Silchar, where he began work on his PhD thesis titled, "Imprisoned Art and Artist - a Study of Sheer Printmakers of Assam," covering the entirety of the state's printed art history up to the 19th century. He also studied the genre of printing, and he received his PhD in 2015. Since then, he has taught printing, painting, and other aspects of applied arts in addition to mentoring his PhD students. In addition, he teaches doctoral students; three of his pupils have received their doctorates.

Dr. Raj reminisces about his early years and states that they were spent in Guwahati. He finished his ninth Assamese language lesson at a primary school in Guwahati. He claims that was a time of great inspiration. He studied painting and, thanks to the Guwahati Artists' Guild, an artistic association, learned a great deal about events taking place throughout India. He claims that a number of teachers pushed him to embrace painting as his job, and he was able to learn a lot of knowledge from his professors.

Dr Raj states that he enrolled in a one-year polytechnic study following his successful completion of his class 10 examinations. He claims that in addition to studying a great deal of engineering-related material during the course of that year, he also learned a great deal about art and improved his abilities in order to get admitted to Shantiniketan. He feels it was a mistake to enrol in a polytechnic study.

He finds great inspiration and motivation in the Bengali saying, which states that teachers are the best friends of everybody. He views his instructors as his closest friends since they have always provided him with motivation, inspiration, and advice in his life.

Regarding his mentors, Dr. Raj states that his instructors have always served as sources of motivation for him. Professor Gulam Mohammed Sheikh of MSC University, Professor K. G. Subramanyan, and other instructors he encountered along the way assisted him in learning about the critical genre of art. In addition, his parents have given him a lot of advice and encouragement along the way.

He enjoys reading and composing poetry and other literary works in his spare time. He is also a huge fan of western and classical music. He writes poetry and enjoys sitting in silence since they both aid in his mental well-being.
