A dentist by profession, Dr Rahul Bhargava chose Dentistry because when he could see people smile it brought a smile to his face too.

Dr Rahul Bhargava is working as a Professor in the Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics at Darshan Dental College, Udaipur.

Rahul originally hails from Alwar. After completing high school, he appeared for RPMT and other medical entrance examinations and was lucky enough to get a berth at a government college in Bangalore. He did his BDS and MDS in Bangalore.

After completing his MDS in 2010, he came back to Rajasthan and joined Darshan Dental College, Udaipur and has been working there ever since.

Rahul says whenever you meet a person, the first thing that you notice is their smile. When he saw people smile, he felt happy from within and hence he chose Dentistry as his career.

Talking about tough times in his life, Rahul shares that preparing for the medical entrance examinations was tough for him as there were very few seats in medical colleges at that time and the competition was fierce. He often watched motivational videos to keep his morale high. Also at school, he was a very shy kid and when he moved to Bangalore for his undergraduate studies, it was a completely different environment there for someone who came from a small city. People there would speak the vernacular language and he also had to learn to speak in Kannada. Besides, during his internship after his bachelors, while his other batchmates were enjoying themselves, he worked hard for the PG entrance exam to get into MDS and he was able to get a government seat for his MDS.

Rahul considers his teachers as his role models. He says that his teachers taught him personal and professional ethics to be followed in both the fronts of life: personal and professional. Besides, the HOD of his alma mater, told him that wherever he went he should work with his heart and be an asset to the organisation he worked at.

If he could go back in time, then he would want to relive the third year of his undergraduation when he made good friends and bunked classes and mostly enjoyed his time.

To budding dentists, he says both your education and experience should go hand in hand. You should have a thorough knowledge of your field as you will deal with humans and not machines. Besides, you should have good communication skills to be able to communicate with your patients better with regard to the treatments that they need and establish a good rapport with them.

Rahul says that during the Covid pandemic, when other doctors were not seeing patients, he opened his clinic and treated patients. He considers this as his biggest achievement to be able to serve patients in the tough pandemic times.

In his free time, Rahul likes to read self-help books, play Carrom, watch movies, play cricket and listen to songs.

His life mantra is whatever he does he does it with his heart.
