Believe in yourself, and you can achieve anything.
Puja Agarwal serves as the Vice President of the Arya Group of Colleges in Jaipur. Her journey with the institution began a decade ago, when she joined to inspire students. Gradually, she transitioned into administrative roles, and today, she takes pride in having guided and motivated thousands of students.
In addition to her role at the college, Puja has hosted a TV show on Doordarshan called 'Nayi Chunauti'. She is also a social entrepreneur, contributing significantly to various social causes.
Puja completed her LLB from Punjab University, where she was a university topper. She then pursued a Company Secretary course. After her marriage, she entered the academic field, influenced by her in-laws' background in academia.
She continued to fuel her passion for education by completing her MBA, and subsequently, her PhD. Today, she holds the esteemed position of Vice President. She cherishes her connection with students and faculty, learning new things every day as she believes that learning is a continuous process.
Speaking about the Arya Group of Colleges, she shares that it was established in 2000 by her father-in-law, Er. T.K. Agarwal, a Civil Engineering graduate from Roorkee University and a former PWD department engineer. He took voluntary retirement at 70 and founded the Arya Group of Colleges, inspired by the vision of "Jai Jawan, Jai Kisaan, Jai Vigyaan."
Together, Er. T.K. Agarwal, Puja's brother-in-law, and her husband collaborated to bring the vision of the Arya Group of Colleges to fruition.
Recognizing the absence of engineering colleges in Rajasthan at that time, they pioneered the establishment of an engineering college, addressing the prevailing need as people typically headed to the southern regions for such educational opportunities.
In 2000, they pioneered the introduction of Information Technology in Rajasthan, which was an emerging field in the USA at the time. Her husband's passion for research led to the expansion of these efforts, impacting thousands of students. Over time, they diversified their course offerings, currently encompassing Computer Science and its allied branches such as AI, Data Science, Cyber Security, Electronics and Communication, as well as core branches like Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil Engineering, among others.
Puja emphasizes the Arya Group of Colleges' unique selling proposition (USP) as its commitment to research, particularly in the fields of Robotics and AI. The institution is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including Surface Mount Technology (SMT), CNC technology, laser cutting, and 3D printing machines. This comprehensive infrastructure provides students with diverse exposure and opportunities for hands-on learning.
She says that the mission of Arya Group is to instill culture, values, and the right attitude in students, along with education. Puja says that, at Arya, they try to build confidence in every student that they have the potential to achieve their dreams, which is the primary goal of Arya Institute.
Born and raised in Chandigarh, Puja completed her schooling from Sacred Heart Convent School and college from MCM DAV, Chandigarh. She then pursued her law degree from Punjab University and also completed her Company Secretary course. She is grateful to have been born into a family that prioritized women's education in the 1970s, a time when such a mindset was rare.
She appreciates the values instilled in her by her parents and strives to pass them on to her students at Arya. Her message to students is that everyone is capable of achieving greatness; they just need to believe in themselves. She encourages them to keep trying, assuring them that they can make a significant impact on their lives and those around them.
Puja feels that India is a very competitive country, and the competitive environment sometimes instills a feeling in a child that they are not capable of achieving their dreams. However, she feels that ‘Leharon Se Darkar Nauka Kabhi Paar Nahi Hoti, Aur Koshish Karne Walon Ki Kabhi Haar Nahi Hoti.’ Drawing upon the above quote, she feels that the real failure in life is not trying again and again to achieve our goals.
When asked about her role models, Puja says that she considers her father, husband, and mother as her role models. She attributes her success to the values her father instilled in her, the confidence her husband gave her, and the constant encouragement from her mother.
Drawing the difference between education and experience, she believes that education and experience are interrelated. According to her, good experiences lead to success, while bad ones provide learning opportunities. She emphasizes that education is a tool without which one cannot achieve anything.
She shares a doha her mother-in-law recites: “Shiksha Bandhu Videsh Mein, Shiksha Vipat Sahaye. Jo Naari Shikshawati, So Kaise Dukh Paaye.” This means that education is a companion abroad and a support in times of crisis. She believes that an educated person, especially a woman, can overcome any adversity.
Puja’s message to the youth of India is that they are very lucky to have been born in India and should seize every opportunity that comes their way. She believes that India is gaining global recognition and urges the youth to work hard and set goals.
She further says that the 3-C’s - Character, Consistency, and Confidence are the key ingredients to achieving any goal or desire in their life.
