Dr. P. C. Vyas is working as a Senior Professor and HOD in the Department of Forensic Medicine at Dr. SN Medical College, Jodhpur. Earlier, he was posted as Medical Superintendent at the Mahatma Gandhi Hospital until 2018.
Upon reaching the age of sixty-two, he stepped down from his role as superintendent and transitioned to the position of head of the department. In this capacity, he oversees a department specializing in the medico-legal field, handling cases that necessitate police involvement, such as crafting injury reports, conducting medical examinations in rape cases, and overseeing post-mortems and other legal matters. Throughout his tenure, he conducted over 15,000 post-mortems and compiled more than 50,000 reports.
Dr. Vyas was born in Sandari village in Barmer district. He did his primary education in Khandap village, near his house. Because his father was a teacher, they came to Balotra, and he completed the rest of his studies there. Then he got his B.Sc. from Jodhpur University and his MBBS from Dr. SN Medical College, Jodhpur. After completing MBBS, he joined his first job in his village for some time, and then he was posted to SMS Medical College, Jaipur. So he did his master’s degree from there itself.
Dr. Vyas mentions that during the pandemic, he was in Jodhpur. Despite the challenging circumstances, he did not take any leave and continued to work full-time. Given his role in the legal field, he encountered difficulties, including conducting post-mortems on COVID-positive patients. He commends the collective resilience during these challenging times, noting that everyone maintained composure and worked with unwavering dedication to fulfill their duties.
Talking about struggles, Dr. Vyas says that becoming a doctor is a very difficult task. Back then, they did not have many facilities like coaching classes, transportation, and other facilities, so they had to struggle a lot and used to do self-study by taking guidance from their teachers and seniors. But with hard work and devotion, he got selected. Then, after getting selected in forensic medicine from RPSC, he went to Jaipur and did his M.D. While doing his M.D., he also had to take care of his family along with a job. So he had to struggle with all these things, but he managed them well.
Dr. Vyas was fond of sports in his childhood and has played basketball at the school and college level. Even after entering the medical field, he continued playing tennis and badminton. But as his seniority and responsibilities at work increased, he could hardly spare time for sports.
In his spare time, Dr. Vyas likes listening to old songs. He likes to watch movies, play cricket, and spend time with his family.
Dr. Vyas offers guidance to newcomers, emphasizing the irreplaceable value of hard work. He stresses that maintaining a sympathetic attitude toward people enhances their ability to provide significant relief. Additionally, he advises against procrastination and encourages a mindset where no task is deemed insignificant.
Regarding achievements, Dr. Vyas recounts that after just one year of service in Jodhpur, he received an honor from the District Administration at the stadium on August 15th. Subsequently, he initiated an MD course in his department and successfully organized a national-level conference at the college. He takes pride in his current role as the National Level President of the Indian Academy of Forensic Medicine, a position he has held for three years.
According to Dr. Vyas, both education and experience are necessary. He says that education never ends, and you have to keep yourself updated by reading new books or watching content on online platforms. And when you start working, you get experience that is surely useful to help you move ahead in your career and guide your juniors.
