Dr. Neelam sets a perfect example of an empowered woman. She was always encouraged by her father to participate in sports. She played different sports at  national level during her school and college time.

Dr. Neelam holds a PhD in Physical Education. Currently she is working as an Assistant Professor at Pacific College of Physical Education, Udaipur.

Neelam was born and brought up in Agra. She received her education in Agra itself. After completing her school education, she did her BA followed by an MA. She also did her B.P.Ed. and M.P.Ed. from MLSU, Udaipur. Then she did her PhD from Sai Nath University, Ranchi.

Neelam’s father served in the Army. Neelam says that her father always gave her the same freedom and opportunities as he would have given to a boy child. He never discriminated against her just because she was a girl child.

Neelam has been professionally working since 2010. She has worked in different states, Rajasthan, Gujarat, UP, Delhi etc. Neelam shares that in M.P.Ed., one is taught different games and after that one has to specialize in one particular sport as per their interest. She did her specialisation in Football. Besides, she has also played Hockey and Softball at national level.

Talking about struggles in her life, Neelam says that a sports person's life is always filled with struggles. There is a lot of competition in sports. She would wake up early in the morning and go for her Hockey practise, then she would go to her school and in the evening again she would practise Hockey. Many a time, she would have to request senior players to let her practise as the ground would be mostly occupied by them.

Neelam says that playing sports entailed that she compromised on her academics. Later when she went to college for her graduation, she continued playing sports. She was the Captain of her college Hockey team. She says that when she enrolled for her B.P.Ed. at MLSU, she realised that there was no girls’ Hockey team there. She played a crucial role in making a team of girls Hockey players. And in 2008, the team also participated in Hockey tournaments and she led the team as the Captain.

Talking about her achievements, Neelam shares that she has been a national player of Hockey, Football and Softball. She qualified for the Indian Football Team. She even attended camps for the same. But the team couldn’t participate further owing to some circumstances. She has also worked as a Coach of Football for CBSE games conducted by SGFI.

Neelam says that the Covid pandemic had both its positive and negative impacts on the lives of people. During the pandemic, people got to spend time with their families and be with their loved ones. But it disrupted the economies of the nation and the world. She requests people to adhere to the Covid protocols and take all safety measures, as we are still not over with the pandemic.

To aspiring students who want to make a career in the field of Physical Education, Neelam advises that set a goal for yourselves and stop not until the goal is achieved. Besides, she says that struggles are natural in life but you have to remain focused on your goal to be successful in life.

During her free time, Neelam reads books. She also researches online about the latest changes and happenings in the field of Physical Education to stay up-to-date.

Neelam considers her parents as her role models. She says that her father always encouraged her in all her endeavours as a sports person. She advises all the parents to encourage their girl child and give her equal opportunities as boys.
