Learning from mistakes makes one a good leader.
Dr. Narendra Kumar Sharma is working as a Vice Chairman of Quality Circle Forum of India - Rajsamand Chapter. As a writer, he is known by the name Narendra Nirmal.
Narendra hails from Rajsamand. He served for forty-two years in JK Tyres as an HR Head, and thereafter he established a learning academy. Currently, he is promoting quality awareness ideas and thoughts, and providing training. Narendra has written a few books which have been published both in English and Hindi.
Recalling his childhood memories, Narendra says that he spent his childhood days with a lot of struggles. He says that he grew up in an environment with a lack of resources, but his dreams were big. He started doing a job just after his graduation to overcome the financial issues of his family.
Narendra says that he started reading books at the young age of two and a half years. Back then his interest lay in sociology, literature, story, poetry, and religious books. However, after passing his tenth, he developed a great interest in and used to spend most of his time in nature. And because of this interest, he wanted to work in the corporate industry and started working just after completing his graduation.
However, after some time, he realized that he should go for further studies and did seven degrees both in Management and literature. He says that he did MBA from Indira Gandhi Open University, and he was also a position holder in literature at Rajasthan University and a gold medalist in labor laws. Thereafter, he did PhD in Competency Management.
Narendra kept on writing books, and articles on management, and also did a few specialized courses in the area of management and is aiming to share his knowledge with the people.
Talking about his challenges, Narendra says that he began his career in the manufacturing industry and there he had to work in different shifts. After working for five years in the manufacturing industry, he decided to go for further studies and started doing the relevant degrees one by one. Thereafter, he joined a company in a good position and retired as a General Manager. He says that his professional life and studies continued parallelly, and he always kept himself motivated for all the hard work.
Speaking about his role models, Narendra says that he had different role models at different stages of his life. He says that his father is his very first role model who always motivated him to speak good English and that is the reason why he became a motivational speaker. Also, her mother taught him to be brave and fight through his struggles. Further, he got to meet various Vice Presidents of the industry like Karuna Shankar Pandey, and A K Makkar, who inspired him and the youngsters in the industry also motivated him a lot.
Comparing education and experience, Narendra says that education is only appropriate for entry-level jobs. However, once you enter the industry, everybody is considered equal, whether the person is more educated or less. He says that a degree is simply an entry ticket to the industry and after that, if a person continues learning in different aspects that is more valuable. Narendra says that experience is something that we learn from others, and that experience leads us to grow and contribute effectively.
Speaking about QFCI, Narendra says that the Quality Circle Forum of India is a National Level Body. It works in the area of training related to collaborative efforts on how to work together and excel with statistical process control.
Speaking about the COVID time challenges, Narendra says that when COVID appeared, he prepared himself. He says that since his wife was a teacher, and she had to go out regularly, he prepared himself for the precautions they needed to take in order to stay safe. He also prepared small courses of meditation for the people who were affected by COVID.
When asked about his achievements, Narendra says that he has had many achievements to date. However, highlighting the major ones, he says he has got the highest qualifications and degrees in management and literature. Another achievement he shares is, when he started his career he never thought that he would reach a higher level, however, with the support of a few people, he could achieve a respectable position in the industry.
Sharing some of his memories, Narendra says that he loved nature a lot and due to that love, he at times took a risk and also faced such incidents where he could lose his life. He likes to read when free. He also loves to wake up early in the morning, meditate, and go for a walk. Also, when he is bored, he prefers playing Sudoku, which helps him refresh his mind and relax.
If given a time machine, Narendra would go back in time and like to work for combining science and spirituality together.
Talking about leadership, Narendra says that there is no predefined definition of leadership. He says that taking the lead is more important, and that is what he does. He says that find out the area where you can contribute, collect a team of people, and then focus on an area where you can work, and then delegate it to the people who can take it forward. He says that even a failure is considered leadership where you fail, learn from your mistake, and move forward.
Narendra says that from his very childhood, he was able to have a good amount of grasp on different languages. He says that when he started reading books, it generated more interest in reading books and learning from them. He says that he started writing at the age of fourteen and when he was in class eleventh, he edited a handwriting magazine for the first time. When he was fifteen years old, a lot of his articles got published in the Jalte Deep magazine and that is when he continued his writing journey. To the upcoming aspirants, Narendra says that God has gifted everybody with unique wisdom and one should explore their area of focus, identify their purpose, and work accordingly. He says that people can use psychometric tests to identify their area of focus, and only efforts can make one successful. He also says that do not focus much on your degrees, but rather continue to develop new skills that will help you become a good leader.
