Throughout his career, Dr. N.K. Gupta has been recognized for his dedication, hard work, and significant contributions to medical science. Earning his MD degree in 2002, he worked on a critical stem-cell project in the AIIMS Neurology Department, funded by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. He also received a diploma in stem cell research from the Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences.

Prof. Dr. N. K. Gupta is the Head of the Department of General Medicine at PIMS, Udaipur.

He completed his education at SMS Medical College in Jaipur and JLN Medical College in Ajmer. After finishing his postgraduate studies in Delhi, he started his career as an SR. He then went to the UK to undergo training as a medical registrar. He also worked for sometime at AIIMS as a Senior Research Officer and conducted research on stem cell treatment in Manipal and Bangalore.

He joined PIMS, Udaipur in 2014 as an Assistant Professor and has since risen to become a Professor and Head of the Department of General Medicine. His work focuses on general medicine, where he diagnoses and treats patients. The department covers various specialties, including gastroenterology, nephrology, neurology, endocrinology, and hematology. He says he enjoys working at PIMS, appreciating the good team there and also the excellent faculty.

Dr. Gupta elaborates that at PIMS, the Medicine Department is the largest and serves as the hospital's nucleus. They provide 24/7 emergency services, with faculty and residents available both day and night. All patients initially come to the General Medicine Department for diagnosis before being referred to specialized or ICU treatment if needed. They also have super-specialized departments like the Oncology Department for  treating cancer patients, Cardiology for heart issues, and Gastroenterology for stomach ailments using interventions like endoscopy, colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, biopsy, and ERCP.

The Neurology Department treats stroke patients with tests like nerve conduction velocity, EMG, and EEG. They offer comprehensive facilities, including a new Cardiac Autonomic Neuropathy (CAN) treatment for diabetic patients.

In the OPD, both walk-in and follow-up patients are treated. A high number of follow-up patients indicates the trust and confidence in doctors here. They handle a large number of OPD, IPD, and ICU patients.

Sharing his achievements, Dr. Gupta highlights earning his MD in 2002 as a significant milestone. He then worked in the AIIMS Neurology Department under Dr. Goyal on a critical project funded by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, focusing on stem cells treatment for stroke patients. The research showed some patient improvements. He furthered his knowledge of stem cells at the Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences. He also went to the UK for registrarship before joining PIMS as an assistant professor. His work at AIIMS and his diploma from the Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences in stem cell research are notable accomplishments, with stem cell treatment poised to become a future treatment for cancer patients.

Born in Kota, Dr. Gupta recalls a time without the current trend of coaching for medical exams. His father wanted him to become a doctor, so he studied hard and cleared the entrance exam, gaining admission to the MBBS program at SMS Medical College, Jaipur.

Reflecting on his childhood, he remembers climbing mango trees and getting scolded. He recalls his father's words about the necessity of hard work. He attributes his success to his hard work and dedication.

When asked, Dr. Gupta cites his father and the head of his postgraduate department as his role models. His father's dedication to providing for the family and the department head's strict mentorship shaped his career. The song "Ruk Jana Nahi Tu Kabhi Haar Ke" inspires him, reinforcing his belief in hard work and perseverance.

He acknowledges that the medical profession is demanding, requiring significant sacrifices, including limited family time and hectic schedules. He remembers struggling to find a job for four to six months after graduation, during which time he faced family responsibilities. Eventually, he secured a job in Delhi, and his career progressed smoothly from there. While he now enjoys financial stability, he wishes he could have enjoyed his earnings earlier in life.

To aspiring medical students, Dr. Gupta advises having a genuine passion for the profession, as it requires many years of study—six years for an MBBS degree, three years for PG, and another three years for super-specialization. He emphasizes that one cannot expect to earn money immediately and that the profession's demands and responsibilities are significant as a doctor deals with the life of a human. He highlights the importance of patient care, noting that patients' blessings will accompany dedicated doctors throughout their lives.

Addressing the youth, Dr. Gupta stresses that there is no shortcut to success. He encourages hard work and focus on goals, ensuring that persistence will eventually lead to achievement.

Dr. Gupta also notes a gap in student-teacher relationship nowadays, with younger generations often feeling they don't need guidance from their teachers. He advises students to maintain good relationships with their teachers and seek their guidance.
