Working as a Dermatologist in GBH American Hospital for the past six years, Dr. Mohit Saxena has an academic background that makes him an achiever.

Born in Rampur district, Uttar Pradesh, Dr. Mohit completed his schooling there. His mother, a teacher, and his father, an officer, provided him with good academic backing.

After completing his MBBS from BHU, Varanasi, Dr. Mohit moved to Delhi to prepare for a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) with a good study plan. Being a meritorious student from the very beginning, he scored a good rank in spite of very tough competition and pursued an M.D. from the same college, BHU, Varanasi. This journey from 2006 to 2012 taught him many things, both on a professional and personal level.

On the question of why he chose the medical line, he, with all truthfulness answers that it was his family’s decision which fortunately turned out to be the best one. However, when it came to choosing a subject in M.D., he was quite clear about it. From being a low-emergency field, Dermatology provided a comfortable working environment and is also often termed as a ‘Cool Branch’.

He also points out that this field gives you an opportunity to bring positive change in the standard of living of his patients. We may think that problems like itching or hair loss are not that severe. However, according to him, such issues have a deep psychological impact on one’s mind. He loves this work for the very same reason-giving a better life.

Talking about the impact of Covid on his profession, he tells us that it actually increased the severity of the diseases his patients were suffering from. Inability to come out of their houses, not giving much heed to skin problems, and using home remedies, actually proved detrimental to them.

He has some great advice for those who want to join this field as he did. Patience is the key to success as this field requires the person to be highly composed. From long transplant procedures to unrealistic client demands, one has to deal with many such cases and hence should be cool-minded.

Who is a leader? For him, a leader is quite different from a boss. He always talks about the team and never himself alone. He who supports the team throughout the journey like a friend is a true leader according to him.

Talking about his inspiration, he gives this position to his parents and teachers. Devotion and dedication to learn something new and how to approach a situation in the best possible way is what he says he learned from his parents. He learned to give from his teachers who gave him uninterrupted knowledge and also inculcated the feeling in him that you get multiple times of what you give.

‘Count your blessings' is the final message he wants to give us. There are different phases in life and the only trick according to Dr. Mohit is to always look for what we have which will definitely outnumber the things we don’t have.
