HoD- Physics and NCC In-Charge Dr. Mohd. Shakil Qureshi specializes in teaching, mentoring, and research. With over 15 years of experience, he emphasizes discipline, integrity, and holistic development, inspiring students through academics, NCC training, and lessons of perseverance and patriotism.

Dr. Mohd. Shaqil Qureshi currently heads the Department of Physics at Medicaps University, Indore and also serves as the NCC In-Charge.

He primarily deals with B.Tech first-year students, teaching the Physics course in the first semester and overseeing their academic progress. Apart from B.Tech., the department also offers M.Sc. and Ph.D programs and is well-established in terms of research and development, performing exceptionally well.

Under his guidance, the NCC unit is also doing good with many students, particularly in the NCC Air Wing, having achieved remarkable success.

HoD-Physics, Dr. Mohd. Shakil Qureshi joined Medicaps University in 2010. Over his approximately 15-year tenure, he has learned extensively, progressing from the basics to his current leadership position, gaining rich experience along the way.

He shares that the Physics Department is strongly aligned with the university motto, “Shiksha bhi aur Sanskar bhi” (Education along with Values). First-year students, just out of school, encounter many new experiences, and the department focuses on instilling in them both knowledge and discipline. They emphasize a deep understanding of the subject and employ best practices to develop the skills and potential of each student.

The department was established in 2000, but Dr. Qureshi joined in 2010 when it was relatively small. Many initiatives were undertaken during his early years, providing him with opportunities to learn and grow. Today, the department is thriving in academics, research, and student development.

Dr. Qureshi’s own education was completed entirely in Indore. After schooling, he joined Holkar Science College, which shared a philosophy similar to Medicaps University, emphasizing discipline and academic excellence. He completed his graduation and M.Sc. there, and then pursued his Ph.D. at GSITS Indore. During his academic journey, he also developed a keen interest in NCC, which he actively pursued alongside his studies.

He recounts the rigorous schedule of his college days: attending college six days a week, starting at 7:30 am, traveling 8–9 km from home, often in winter on a bicycle, with Sundays dedicated to NCC parades. Punctuality was strictly enforced, and even a minute late could result in penalties. He considers this discipline an invaluable part of his learning and character-building experience.

Reflecting on his early childhood, Dr. Qureshi mentions that he was short in stature and physically weaker compared to his classmates. Despite being teased and bullied in his childhood, he emphasizes that physical appearance or personality does not determine one’s success. Hard work, perseverance, and performance ultimately earn recognition and respect. He shares that maintaining discipline, physical fitness, and commitment are essential for personal and professional growth.

Dr. Qureshi regards his mother as his primary role model. After his father passed away when he was in the 10th grade, his mother, though a homemaker, single-handedly supported the family and guided him through school, college, and up to his doctorate. Her resilience and approach to challenges inspired him deeply.

He also admires Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, particularly for his simplicity despite achieving great heights. Dr. Qureshi draws inspiration from Kalam’s philosophy, comparing it to the proverb, “The tree with many fruits bends low”, highlighting humility and groundedness.

He recalls an old inspirational song that continues to influence him: “इतनी शक्ति हमें देना दाता, मन का विश्वास कमज़ोर हो न।”

He interprets the song as a reminder to maintain integrity, do good to oneself, and avoid causing harm to others.

Remembering his struggles, Dr. Qureshi shares that pursuing his Ph.D. was challenging, particularly in establishing interactions with his guide. However, those experiences now benefit his teaching and mentoring style. He believes that learning is continuous, and even teachers remain learners while guiding students. Early in his career, he gained valuable insights from colleagues and students, shaping his approach today.

He emphasizes honesty, fairness, and diligence as the cornerstones of success. Doing one’s best ensures personal satisfaction and avoids guilt.

For young students, Dr. Qureshi advises first striving to become better individuals. Only then can they effectively contribute to their work and society. He underscores patriotism as an active responsibility, not only defending the country but also improving society and contributing positively to the environment. Even small actions, such as planting a seed or helping nature, reflect a commitment to the nation. He urges the youth to do their best wherever they are and in whatever they undertake, for the betterment of themselves and the country.
