An economics enthusiast and an assistant professor in the field, Dr. Manju Khatri has also worked as an Assistant Statistical Officer in the Bikaner Collectorate before joining the field of education. A merit holder in MCom, Dr. Khatri also emphasizes on the importance of contributing to our nation’s development.

Dr. Manju Khatri is an Assistant Professor in the Banking and Business Economics Department at Government Meera Girls College, Udaipur.

Dr. Khatri describes that the department, along with providing degrees like BCom and MCom, also runs courses under the UGC COC-Career Oriented Courses program, which help students earn Certification, Diplomas and Advanced Diplomas in various streams. Started in 2005, the initiative allows students to opt for subjects like ‘New Perspective in Banking’, a course focusing on emerging banking changes, and grants a student a certificate on completing the first year, a diploma in the second year, and an advance diploma on successfully completing three years of the course. The USP of these courses is that it allows students from other streams like Arts and Science to take advantage of the initiative.

Talking more about the college, Dr. Manju Khatri says that the faculty and staff at Government Meera Girls College is highly supportive and the vision of the present principal Dr. Deepak Maheshwari is long sighted and is going to prove extremely beneficial for the students. She says that along with teaching the curriculum, she also simultaneously helps students to prepare for their competitive exams like NEET and focuses on providing extra classes for the girls as well. Dr. Manju says that the research center at the college also provides ample opportunities for students to learn, grow and contribute to the development of the country.

Shedding light on her achievements, Dr. Manju says that holding a merit in her MCom is one achievement she is proud of. She says that her career has seen many turns. She started as a 3rd grade teacher and then worked as an Assistant Statistical Officer in the Bikaner Collectorate for three years. After that, she worked as a lecturer in school education and then came into college education, where she got her first posting in Nathdwara. After serving there, she joined Government Meera Girls College and has been working here ever since.

Dr. Khatri shares that she always liked learning and reading books. She always had an interest in the field of commerce, and when it came to selecting a specialization for her MCom, she opted for Economic Administration and Financial Management (EFM), in which she turned out to be a merit holder at Rajasthan University. Dr. Manju says that she also wished to become an economist due to her inclination towards the field and also keeps encouraging students to take up this globally important subject.

Talking about her education and her early days, Dr. Manju Khatri says that her father worked as a Director at NCC, and hence transfers were common for him. She did her schooling from DAV, Jaipur, and then started her college in Ch. Balluram Godara Govt. Girls College, Sriganganagar, where her father got transferred to. However, they soon returned to Jaipur again, and she completed her graduation from Kanoria P. G. Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Rajasthan University, Jaipur. She also did an MCom in Accounts from Bikaner, an MA in Economics, an MPhil, a BEd and eventually a PhD from Rajasthan University.

Sharing about her role models, Dr. Manju says that she gains inspiration from everyone, irrespective of age, who does their work perfectly. However, she gained motivation from the life of the late Ratan Tata, who, along with contributing towards the economic development of the country, also focused on society and contributed a lot for the people. Dr. Khatri feels that we should also work for society in whichever manner we can.

Dr. Khatri also emphasizes the importance of time and says that her favorite quote is ‘Time is money’. She feels that we all have the same number of hours and should utilize every minute judiciously.

Giving a message to students who desire to join Government Meera Girls College and her department, Dr. Manju Khatri says that the field of economics provides ample opportunities but requires one to keep themselves always updated.
