The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.
Manisha Agarwal is a renowned corporate trainer based in Udaipur.
Born and brought up in Jaipur, Manisha has a Ph.D. in human resource management. She did her graduation in commerce. After getting a distinction in 10th grade, she was very keen to study commerce, but her school didn’t have this subject, so she had an argument with her parents, and seeing her determination and keen interest, she was admitted into the most prominent school of that time, Tagore Public School, Jaipur.
Manisha got married at the age of 21, so she was unable to complete her pending courses. She then shifted to Udaipur with her in-laws. Her in-laws were traditional yet modern in their thinking. Her father-in-law motivated her to continue her studies. She then pursued her master's and later did her Ph.D. She finds herself fortunate enough to work under Dr. Rajeshwari, who guided her throughout her research work.
While continuing her Ph.D., Manisha used to teach at Commerce College as a visiting faculty member. In 2006–07, she realized that the education curriculum was becoming too challenging for students, and they were constantly seeking ways to evade it. She found that she was not able to add much value to her profession.
In 2007, she got a chance to work as a corporate trainer at Hindustan Zinc. There, she found that she was really able to make a difference and bring a lot of change to people’s minds. During her training days, after the day ended, she was not at all tired but rather more excited to learn more, and this shifted her interest towards the corporate field from the academic world. Then Manisha started looking for more such assignments in the corporate world.
Manisha even worked with T.V. Rao Learning Systems. She then became a certified assessor for developing ADC centers and other management-related programs. In 2012, she floated her own consulting company with a business partner, Mr. Binod Verma, a Harvard alumnus, and Mr. DK Ghosh. She started learning from Binod about stimulated learning, where people learn with tasks. Then they started taking assignments from Hindustan Zinc and other cement companies.
Eventually, in 2014, Manisha got an opportunity from IIM Udaipur to work as a counselor and teach business communication, and she is currently employed in the same role. This counseling profession developed from her hobby.
Sharing her pandemic experience, Manisha developed three beautiful programs. She changed herself, groomed herself, engaged herself in article writing and other creative tasks, and had a great time with her family. She attended a lot of webinars and pursued a lot of courses.
Manish’s mother-in-law is her role model. She has not seen a lady like her. In her family, all the ladies are experts in their fields, and so is her mother-in-law. She always stays strong in all situations; this gives her support and motivation, which she didn’t get from her own family before marriage.
The only thing Manisha wants to change is that her parents should have given her more courage when she was young. There were a lot of things that she wanted to be, but due to the societal pressure faced by her parents, they didn’t allow her. Their focus was more on academics. Currently, she is very passionate about her profession.
Manisha considers herself not a born leader; she is more of a hard worker. She developed leadership skills during her training days and has been running a practical leadership program.
Manisha believes that humans are not machines and hence should be treated with respect and dignity. One should understand the importance of the work people are doing for you, and with this humanistic approach, you can make this planet a beautiful place to live in, says Manisha.
